Role Details
When you volunteer at the Canadian Cancer Society you have real impact. It takes all of us to take on cancer. Volunteer with us at one of our signature events in your community on event day. You can choose a specific role and shift(s) based on availability. You can also assist us when we need event support on an on-call basis in your own community.
Description

Some of the tasks or responsibilities that may be assigned to you include:

  • Welcome participants, volunteers and our hopeful participants, and interact with them during registration and activities;
  • Set up tents, tables, chairs or banners;
  • Dismantling of the site and handing over of equipment after the event;
  • Green Team;
  • Parking and/or signage attendant;
  • Install and/or decorate light fixtures;
  • Collect signatures for the Public Interest Advocacy to help it carry out its mission;

Why we need you
The success of the Relay For Life depends in large part on its Event Day volunteers. You will be able to make a difference as a volunteer, whether it’s helping to set up or take down the site, welcoming participants, selling or decorating light fixtures, taking photos!

What we’re looking for

  • A lot of energy and enthusiasm.
  • Team spirit and sense of community.
  • Ease of communication and ability to work in a public place.
  • Dedication and desire to make a big impact.
  • Good physical fitness, in the case of certain roles (e.g., lifting).

People from all walks of life with a variety of abilities and interests are welcome. Some roles may only be filled by people 19 years of age or older, or people who are physically fit, for example if they require heavy lifting.

Our Investment

  • A fun way to make a difference in your community or neighbourhood.
  • The chance to embody our mission, vision and values.
  • The opportunity to play an important role in an event that supports and honours our loved ones who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Your commitment

  • Availability on the day of the event, June 7 or 14 (after registering, a member of the organizing committee will contact you to let you know your role and schedule).
  • Shift lasting 2 to 6 hours.
