Position Title: Event and Programming Coordinator
Reports to: This full-time position reports to the Executive Director of the Lacombe & District Historical Society.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Either: Events and planning training from a recognized institute with 2-3 years experience OR 3-5 years experience working in an event and programming role.
  • Interest in the historic and cultural mandate of the organization and a desire to ensure events and programs are related to the organization’s mandate.
  • Ability and flexibility to develop events and programs within a not-for-profit setting.
  • Experience and ability to learn social media and website management an asset.
  • Problem solving mentality with a track record of taking initiative with a creative approach.
  • Customer Service, public relations and communications experience.
  • Experience working with non-profits, community and/or government organizations.
  • Some past experience or knowledge of marketing asset.

Lacombe, a city of approximately 13,000, is located in Central Alberta, midway between Edmonton and Calgary, and just 20 minutes north of Red Deer. As a small city situated outside of an urban center (Red Deer) in Alberta, and at the crossroads of major travel routes, Lacombe attracts thousands of visitors annually. The Lacombe & District Historical Society (LDHS), operating under the brand name “Lacombe Museum,” is an award winning non-profit and an Alberta Museum Association Recognized Museum Leader which oversees the 1894 Michener House Museum, the 1902 Blacksmith Shop Museum, and the 1904 sandstone/brick Flatiron Building Museum. LDHS cares for over 40,000 artifacts and 20,000 records in its Collections Space and the Heritage Learning Garden, encompassing 0.3 acres of educational cultural landscaping on its 1.0-acre site with adjoining gardens. The diverse history of early Lacombe, the Michener Family, and subsequent occupants of the three buildings is represented in the Museum’s collections, exhibits, programs, and special events.

Responsibilities
  • Plans and executes all of the Events and Programs for the Lacombe Museum, with oversight and assistance from the Executive Director.
  • Works with community partners to design and facilitate events and programming.
  • Plans and executes appropriate advertising associated with all Events and Programming.
  • Utilizing Canva platform, designs and publishes graphics and videos for advertising purposes.
  • Produces and distributes physical advertising through posters around the City of Lacombe.
  • Creates budgets and revenue vs. costs report for events and programming as needed.
  • For all purchases, ensures that proper filing and reporting to finance department is executed.
  • Assists Executive Director with Grant Writing by providing supporting documentation and discussion.
  • Assists with Flatiron Museum operations by operating front desk on a rotating basis.
  • Coordinates staff and volunteers for Event and Programming support
