MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a high functioning team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preference for a minimum of two years post-secondary education (specialization in events would be desirable).
  • Knowledge of University of Alberta policies and procedures (especially related to events and Advancement) would be an asset.

Responsibilities
  • Supports Law events, including strategic planning and budgeting, scheduling, coordination, booking space, ordering catering and equipment, event setup/cleanup and working with Law’s Faculty Manager to secure staff to assist with and work at events. Also prepares and circulates notifications and reminders for events and maintains Law’s internal events calendar in coordination with other Law staff.
  • Ensures correct protocols are followed for visits by high profile speakers, including senior justices, politicians and other government officials, paying particular attention to titles, and arranging for security if required.
  • Negotiates contracts for events, mainly with external venues and verifies contract terms and costs with Law’s Faculty General Manager before finalizing.
  • Supports Law faculty members by assisting with preparation of class and exam material, drafting routine correspondence, ensuring curriculum vitae are current (mainly for research), assisting with tenure and promotion material and other routine support as required.
  • Supports Law advancement by assisting the Assistant Dean, Development with processing monetary and in-kind gifts and donations to Law, assisting with the set-up of new endowments, liaising with central Advancement as required |and working in coordination with the Law Program Lead, Alumni Relations to assist with event organization and logistics and to facilitate the success of alumni events.
