The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. Events Support Volunteer Reports To Events Coordinator Job Summary The Campus Affairs Commission (CAC) seeks to implement and support programming and advocacy avenues for undergraduate students in the Queen’s community. The Events Support Volunteer is responsible for supporting the Events Coordinator and Events & Projects Manager with the planning and execution of large-scale and small-scale events. This role supports the Events Coordinator and other stakeholders to ensure the success of all events while providing support and guidance for smaller club events Job Competencies Communication Organization Collaboration Cultural Sensitivity Creativity Job Duties 5-7 hours/week (September – April) Support the Events Coordinator in the planning and execution of large-scale and small-scale events Provide guidance and support to clubs in planning and hosting smaller events Develop and maintain event resources, including sanctioning guides, FAQs, and walkthroughs Attend all training sessions to become familiar with the commission and its operations. Complete all assigned tasks efficiently and attentively. Maintain timely communication with the Events Coordinator. Respect and adhere to all company policies, procedures, and ethical standards. Attend and fully participate in all in-person and virtual meetings. Strive to foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere for all students Always serve as a representative of the AMS and its mission statement Complete other duties as assigned by the CAC and the Events Coordinator Job Requirements Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills Maintain regular office hours.
