Description
The Bishop of Bermuda is seeking an Executive Assistant to provide support to the Diocesan and Cathedral offices. The successful candidate will be required to perform a variety of administrative, strategic and communication duties on behalf of the Bishop, the Diocese of the Anglican Church of Bermuda, the Canon Residentiary of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, the Canon Theologian and the Anglican Theological Institute of Bermuda. This individual will be a critical team member of the Diocesan and Cathedral staff and the first point of contact for the Anglican Church of Bermuda. They will need to be in sympathy with the ethos and ministry of the Anglican Church, supporting the mission of the Church as expressed in The Five Marks of Mission and a worshiping member of a local Christian church. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Providing administrative support to the Bishop, including receptionist/secretarial duties and office management. Providing accounting assistance to the management accountants and financial auditors. Assisting in the developing, arranging and implementing of strategic plans for the Diocese, liaising with Clergy and Parishes. Assisting Diocesan and Synod Officers in the performance of their duties, including the Archdeacon, Treasurer, heads of Synod sub-committees, Diocesan Clergy and parish officers and the Bermuda Church Society. * Assisting the Director of Ministry and Discipleship in the administration of the Anglican Theological Institute of Bermuda (4 hours per week) Assisting the Bishop in his role as Dean of the Cathedral with Vestry related matters, including liaising with the Canon Residentiary, Cathedral office and staff. Attending and recording Synodical, Diocesan and Vestry meetings in the capacity of Synod Secretary and Vestry Clerk. Liaising with the government stakeholders on matters concerning the Anglican Church of Bermuda, in particular the Department of Immigration, the Charities Commissioner, and the Registry General’s Office, PIPA, the Department of Social Insurance. Liaising with the Diocesan appointed human resource team and Safeguarding officers. Assisting with communication across the Diocese, including assisting in the production and dissemination of newsletters, growing, and developing the social media platforms for both the Diocese and the Cathedral. Assisting with the development of a marketing strategy and fundraising for the Diocese and Cathedral and its ministries, and overseeing technological developments required to better communicate. Coordinating with other community and religious organisations. Interested persons should possess the following: Associates Degree in office administration or four years relevant experience. A warm and welcoming and prayerful spirit and the ability to demonstrate the utmost level of confidentiality, sensitivity, empathy, and professionalism as befits a Christian environment. Ability to interact with persons from diverse backgrounds with pastoral care and sensitivity. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in all Microsoft Office application, social media and meeting platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Zoom, Teams and AI). Proficiency in QuickBooks and other accounting platforms. Tech savvy with a willingness to learn new programs and applications as necessary. Courses in secretarial skills such as keyboarding, filing and shorthand/minute taking are beneficial. Good organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines. The ability to use initiative. The working hours of the position will be 35 hours per week, divided between the Diocesan Office and the Cathedral at the direction of the Bishop and his commissary, with 4 hours per week to be dedicated to the Anglican Theological Institute. There is a requirement to work 2- 3 Saturday mornings per year, related to Synod business, together with the occasional evening meeting, all of which will be paid as overtime.
