Description

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA

Are you an experienced executive prepared to assume multiple leadership roles and influence Florida’s engineering community via professional development, education, advocacy, and leadership? To help shape the future of these non-profit organizations in Tallahassee, Florida, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC Florida) and the Florida Engineering Society (FES) are looking for a creative Executive Director.
The Executive Director serves as the Chief Executive Officer, responsible for strategic leadership, operational excellence, government advocacy, and member engagement. In addition to working closely with ACEC National and regional partners, this person will oversee employees and represent the organization to state and municipal agencies. In addition to continuously monitoring, evaluating, and reacting to any legislation that can negatively impact Member Firms or the professional engineering profession’s license and practice, the Executive Director must have a thorough understanding of the legislative process.
To people who are enthusiastic about the engineering profession, ideal candidates will bring more than 15 years of executive leadership experience, a history of successful fundraising and membership growth, a love of public policy, and a solid understanding of association management and oversight.
Apply by September 26, 2025 by submitting cover letter and resume.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the FES and ACEC-FL Boards of Directors to support effective governance, strategic alignment and performance monitoring.
  • Provide strategic leadership, operational management and financial oversight to secure effective member engagement, successful external relations, and public policy results.
  • Ensure long-term sustainability, sound financial practices and alignment with the missions of FES and ACEC-FL.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, fiscal, and ethical standards, upholding the integrity and accountability expected of leading non-profit organizations.
  • Develop a strategic plan to increase membership, expand programmatic impact, and ensure long-term financial sustainability.
  • Implement and advance innovative strategies that amplify the association’s missions and position them for long-term impact in a rapidly evolving landscape.
  • Provide strategic oversight of day-to-day operations, ensuring the effective deployment of the association’s financial, human, and intellectual resources.
  • Foster a people-centered culture that prioritizes collaboration, professional development, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to excellence.
  • Empower and support staff by investing in their growth, encouraging cross-functional teamwork, and creating an environment where ideas and contributions are valued.
  • Lead by example to model transparency and accountability
  • Drive key results in membership and fundraising by identifying and cultivating key strategies and tactics
  • Expand the association’s community by strengthening connections with members, supporters, partners, and stakeholders across sectors
  • Model exceptional communication and representational skills, reinforcing the association’s role as a highly respected, nonpartisan convener of engineering professionals
