ABOUT US

Horizons is a community-centered education program serving students from the Greater Philadelphia Metro area. We advance educational equity by building long-term partnerships with students, families, communities, and schools to create experiences that inspire the joy of learning. Horizons Greater Philadelphia (HGP) was founded in 2020 to expand Horizons programming in the Philadelphia area and support existing area ​Horizons affiliates ​which include Horizons at Episcopal Academy, Horizons at Greene Street Friends School, Horizons at Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School, and Horizons at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. HGP is an affiliate of Horizons National, which has over 76 programs in 21 states. HGP is a 501(c)(3) organization and an affiliate of the Horizons National Network.
This summer, HGP serve​d​ approximately 420 public and charter school students with the goal of expanding to build capacity to serve 1,000 students. To achieve this goal, we are committed to building new partnerships with local educational institutions to launch thriving and sustainable community-based Horizons programs across Greater Philadelphia and provide more opportunities for students to learn, grow, and achieve their goals. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • ​​Experienced fundraiser with demonstrated success in securing gifts, strengthening donor relationships, and leading revenue-generating events​
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to set and meet deadlines with competing priorities
  • A demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and Google Workspace tools, with the ability to create and manage spreadsheets, presentations, and documents at a professional level
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive and respectful relationships, with a sense of cultural competency and experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Familiarity with program administration, including operations and staff management
  • Experience with financial reporting, grant administration and budgeting
  • At least ten years of prior experience, including demonstrated success in leadership roles in a nonprofit setting, along with a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Ability to thrive within a small team environment and work collaboratively or independently as needed, with ​a ​high degree​ ​of personal initiative and accountability
  • Driver’s license, reliable transportation, and background checks are required
  • Availability for early morning, evening and weekend commitments required, with advanced notice
Responsibilities

Fundraising and Communications

  • Lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including the cultivation of new funding sources, in partnership with the HGP Board
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation funders; write grant requests; and prepare all required grant reporting
  • Plan and oversee cultivation events, including summer site visits
  • Coordinate all public relations and communications activities, including social media and community outreach using branded Horizons resources
  • Work in close collaboration with existing Philadelphia Horizons affiliates to coordinate fundraising efforts

Organizational Leadership

  • Provide leadership and tactical implementation for organizational strategy, fundraising, financial management, programmatic growth and quality, infrastructure, and board development for an expanding non-profit
  • Manage overall budgeting, financial planning, and financial reporting, including the preparation of the annual financial audit and Form 990
  • Partner with the HGP Board, providing leadership and support to members and committees, including the development of meeting materials and presentations
  • Execute formal agreements and serve as a liaison between HGP, program host institutions, and Horizons National
  • Represent HGP at relevant field events, including the annual Horizons National Conference, Philadelphia-area educational and non-profit events, and local affiliate events
  • Oversee the site preparation, site quality assessment and submission of required data to Horizons National

Program Leadership

  • Oversee site support, evaluation, and communications work of ​HGP’s Assistant ​​​Regional ​​​Program Director​
  • Work with the HGP Board and Horizons National to identify and cultivate institutional partners with the goal​ ​of launching new programs
  • Maintain a collaborative regional Horizons community through regular meetings with site leaders and school leadership; onsite visits; developing regional events for students, families and teachers; surveying; and providing capacity building support to ​Philadelphia Horizons affiliates​​ ​at various stages of development
  • Support Executive Directors at Philadelphia-area ​Horizons affiliates​​ ​to ensure: common outcome measurement aligned with Horizons National standards, measurement, and data systems, cross-site programmatic collaboration as appropriate, and successful student outcomes
  • Work with host schools and site boards to provide annual feedback for site directors and program operations
