EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Location: Vancouver, BC (onsite 3-4 days/week) Schedule: 40 hours/week (including occasional evening/weekends)
Inner Hope Youth Ministries is seeking a passionate and visionary Executive Director to lead our organization in fulfilling its mission to journey alongside youth and their families in East Vancouver, nurturing hope, belonging, and growth. Through support, life skills development, spiritual care, and housing, we work together to create a real and lasting impact in our community. The Executive Director will play a pivotal role in advancing this mandate, ensuring that Inner Hope continues to be a place of support, empowerment, and positive change.
Rooted in the values of Christian faith, committed relationships, loving community, integrity and reconciliation - and a deep understanding that hope and healing is experienced through relationship - the work of Inner Hope focuses on five Calls to Action drawn from the 2015 Truth and Reconciliation Commission report: (1) We journey with parents and extended family as they seek to strengthen family relationships and grow in their capacity to care for their children; (2) We work with youth and young adults to further their education and gain the training required for their employment goals; (3) We support families to access health care and develop a healthy lifestyle to reduce the gap in health outcomes; (4) We support the community to break the cycle of over-representation of Indigenous people in custody; (5) We support churches and Christian organizations to recognize the church’s contribution to oppression of Indigenous people in Canada and to work towards positive reconciliation.
The Executive Director, reporting to the Board of Directors, leads a staff team responsible for program delivery, community support, fundraising, human resources, communications, bookkeeping, and volunteer coordination.

Role Requirements

Organizational Strategy & People Development

• Provide strategic leadership and direction, with support from and accountability to the Board of Directors, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
• Foster and model a healthy and collaborative organizational culture rooted in faith, committed relationships, and loving community.
• Lead, mentor, and support staff and volunteers, with a focus on developing leaders from the community; fostering professional growth and well-being—including coordinating the annual staff retreat and team-building activities.
• Create and maintain policies, quality control, reporting and operational practices to ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Support the integration of Indigenous culture and ways of knowing in both policy and program development.

Finance, Advancement & Outreach

• Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and stewardship of resources.
• Oversee financial reporting, audits, and fiscal policies in partnership with the bookkeeper and Board Treasurer.
• Oversee strategies and outreach to advance donor relations, grant applications, and special events to secure funding for programs and operations, supported by respective staff.
• Represent Inner Hope to applicable parties (e.g. churches, regulatory bodies, prospective donors and supporters, staff, other agencies, program participants, media and the public) and promote the organization’s mission and impact through effective communication, marketing, and public relations initiatives.

Risk Management

• Identify and assess organizational risks, developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for youth, families, staff, and volunteers.
• Ensure all staff and volunteers are trained in risk management and adhere to best practices in child and youth safety.
• Maintain transparent reporting mechanisms and respond promptly to incidents or concerns.
• Work with the Board to regularly review and update risk management strategies.
• In partnership with the Inner Hope Leadership team, ensure a safe and healthy work environment in compliance with legislation and regulations

Board Relations

• Serve as the primary liaison between staff and the board, ensuring timely and transparent communication regarding organizational performance, challenges, and opportunities.
• Support Board Meeting through provision of relevant materials, and present reports to enable informed decision-making during board meetings.
• Offer strategic guidance and professional expertise to board members, keeping them updated on sector trends, regulatory requirements, and best practices.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Proven leadership in non-profit or faith-based organizations, with experience in strategic planning and aligning operations with mission and values.
• Strong ability to foster a collaborative, faith-rooted organizational culture and mentor staff and volunteers.
• Demonstrated experience working in respectful and reciprocal relationships with Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit), grounded in cultural humility and a deep understanding of Indigenous worldviews, values, histories, and governance systems. Proven understanding and appreciation of the lasting impacts of colonization and systemic racism, with a strong commitment to Indigenous cultural safety, humility, and collective healing.
• Solid financial management skills, including budgeting, reporting, and oversight of fundraising and donor relations.
• Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience developing and implementing policies, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of risk management and best practices in child and youth safety.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with diverse parties, including donors, board members, and community partners.
• Experience supporting and collaborating with a Board of Directors, including preparing reports and offering strategic guidance.
• An understanding of, and commitment to, faith-based values, reconciliation and Inner Hope’s mission.
• A current and clean driver’s license (a personal vehicle is an asset; work-related mileage is reimbursed) and ability to pass a criminal record check

Compensation: $82,368 – $92,664 annually - the final salary within this range will be commensurate with the candidate’s skills and experience.
