Job Summary: The Executive Director of Strategic Innovation is a dynamic and forward-thinking leader committed to driving the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) and its partner districts towards excellence in strategic innovation and artificial intelligence (AI) integration. This role is essential in crafting and executing a visionary strategy for the adoption and utilization of AI technologies across the district. The Executive Director collaborates with GISD administrators and local district partners to evaluate AI needs, develop innovative solutions, and establish a progressive vision for AI in educational and operational contexts. This position is responsible for overseeing the deployment of AI tools and ensuring they align with the district’s instructional, business, and operational goals. Additionally, the Executive Director works closely with local school district leaders and municipal representatives to deliver state-of-the-art AI solutions. They are tasked with guiding the ethical use of AI, providing professional development, and ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (MAY INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Deliver strategic planning and leadership regarding the implementation, integration, and use of AI technologies.
  • Develop a comprehensive AI integration roadmap for GISD and member districts, aligned with their educational goals, resource capacities, and organizational culture.
  • Lead cross-functional stakeholder groups to identify and prioritize use cases for AI in business, classroom instruction, curriculum design, assessments, school operations, and professional development.
  • Maintain a forward-looking perspective on emerging AI trends, analyzing how new developments in artificial intelligence can enhance K-12 education and operational efficiencies.
  • Provide advisory and consultation services around AI use and integration.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for GISD and local districts seeking guidance on AI-driven solutions, including recommendation engines for business intelligence, operational efficiencies, personalized learning, adaptive assessment tools, learning analytics platforms, and automated administrative processes.
  • Evaluate vendor solutions, pilot projects, and proof-of-concept initiatives to ensure alignment with district goals, compliance requirements, and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Provide expert counsel on AI procurement, including RFP development, solution vetting, and contract negotiations.
  • Design and deliver professional development sessions, workshops, and coaching opportunities to build district capacity in understanding, deploying, and sustaining AI-driven business and educational technologies.
  • Develop training materials and resources (including guides, tutorials, and case studies) to help educators, administrators, and IT staff integrate AI tools confidently and ethically into their practice.
  • Facilitate learning communities or “innovation cohorts” where educators can collaboratively explore best practices, share lessons learned, and refine AI-enabled teaching strategies.
  • Advise districts on responsible AI implementation, data privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with policy and legal teams to ensure that AI use aligns with established frameworks (e.g., FERPA, COPPA) and uphold equitable and transparent data usage policies.
  • Establish guidelines, protocols, and communication strategies that promote trust, understanding, and transparency for students, families, and communities regarding AI-driven decision-making.
  • Develop metrics, indicators, and evaluation frameworks to measure the impact of AI initiatives on business intelligence, student outcomes, instructional quality, operational efficiencies, and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and needs assessments to refine the GISD’s AI strategy, making data-informed recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Compile and disseminate research findings, white papers, and best practice guides to inform district decision-making and contribute to the broader field of AI in education.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Participates in board of education meetings as requested by the Superintendent.
  • Serves in special administrative assignments as designated by the Superintendent.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
    Education:
    Master’s degree in AI, information technology, or strategic leadership preferred. Bachelor’s degree required (preferably with a technology or instructional technology focus).
    Experience:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and upcoming AI technologies that will shape the landscape of business and education.
  • Minimum four years’ experience leading strategic technology projects or initiatives.
  • Minimum of two years providing training to others on the use of technology (preferably AI tools and solutions).
    Skills/Other:
  • Knowledgeable of current generative AI tools and solutions.
  • Project and operations management skills and experience.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Must be able to adapt to changing priorities and to assimilate new knowledge quickly and effectively to incorporate the products and outgrowths of evolving technologies.
  • Ability to manage and document multiple projects.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated mental/physical ability and stamina for meeting the essential duties of the position and the ability to travel to and from the intermediate school district and the constituent school districts and vendors in the service area.

    Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
