We’re working with Shuswap Community Foundation in Salmon Arm to source a dynamic leader for the role of Executive Director.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Shuswap Community Foundation (SCF) is at a dynamic point in its journey, seeking a strategic, values-driven, and community-connected leader to serve as its next Executive Director. This individual will build on SCF’s 30-year legacy to grow philanthropic impact in the region, engage new and existing donors, and build bridges between generous individuals and the local causes they care most about.
Reporting to the Board of Directors and working alongside a small but dedicated team, the Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the Foundation. This includes advancing SCF’s mission, expanding endowments, enhancing community impact, overseeing effective operations, and strengthening relationships across the region.
This is an outstanding opportunity to work in the vibrant Shuswap region with a respected community foundation that supports a broad range of charitable sectors through long-term, sustainable philanthropy.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in the community services sector and/or the charitable sector in a rural or regional context.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or certification in a relevant field such as nonprofit management, business administration, governance or philanthropic management is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing endowments or investment portfolios, and/or working with investment managers.
  • Strong understanding of financial performance and reporting, compliance, and legal and ethical standards.
  • Broad fundraising background with experience in diverse revenue-generating programs and proven success engaging and soliciting individuals, corporations, and foundations for major gifts and partnerships.
  • Track record of effective board relations and governance support.
  • Experience with strategic planning and execution, and strong ability to coach upwards to a nonprofit board.
  • Ability to lead a philanthropic organization with clarity, empathy, and shared purpose.
  • Leads with integrity, demonstrating a respectful and inclusive approach to engaging donors, grantees, and community partners is essential.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and effectively to various audiences.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships across diverse stakeholders.
  • Local travel is required – a valid driver’s license or alternate means of transportation is required.
  • Comfortable with flexible hours to accommodate Board meetings, evening/weekend events, and donor engagement activities.
  • Advanced proficiency in both written and spoken English is integral to the successful performance of this role.
