POSITION OVERVIEW

The Executive Director (ED) is the chief executive officer of Wachiay Friendship Centre (WFC) and is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED ensures that WFC operates in alignment with its mission, values, and community priorities.
The ED is responsible for overseeing program development, financial management, operational efficiency, and staff leadership. They will work closely with the Board, staff, funding agencies, and community partners to ensure Wachiay continues to provide essential services and advocacy for urban Indigenous peoples and others experiencing barriers to equity.
This position requires strong leadership, vision, and a commitment to Indigenous cultural values. The ED ensures compliance with funding agreements, regulatory requirements, and best practices while fostering a collaborative, culturally safe, and inclusive environment for all who access WFC’s programs and services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • A strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and the challenges facing urban Indigenous communities.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership or senior management role, preferably in a non-profit or community-based setting.
  • Experience in financial management, fundraising, and securing grants.
  • Strong skills in program development, policy implementation, and human resources management.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and governance structures.
  • Excellent communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Business Administration, Non-Profit Management, or a related field.
  • Experience in community-based advocacy and policy development.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous languages is an asset.
