REGULAR CHECKS AND CONTROLS:

  • With the support of LRB, organise and attend regular in depth health and safety inspections both inside the schools buildings and of the schools grounds.
  • Conduct risk assessment reviews on a planned and regular basis.
  • Ensure maintenance and repairs are carried out as and when necessary.
  • Create a way of ensuring you’re notified by the Base Manager if essential stocks are running low, are damaged or need replacing.
  • Ensure all staff are trained on H&S annually and maintain records
  • Alert the Headteacher’s attention to any major risks or repairs which require specialist knowledge in order to be actioned
  • Take prompt action when risks and concerns are highlighted to you

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Line management of up to 8 Headteachers in the specified region of focus.
  • Providing first line support for all Headteachers in span of control, ensuring adherence with Woodside Group practice, policies and high expectations.
  • Facilitating the progression of schools and Headteachers in the region, alongside Woodside’s QA process.
  • Providing a reassuring, balanced, policy driven and research informed voice in times of challenge, or growth.
  • Facilitating a culture commensurate with Woodside Group’s standards, ethos and practices.
  • Providing leadership, coaching, guidance and support to Headteachers, arranging training, development and buddying, where required.
  • Being an active and supportive ambassador of Woodside Group and ‘The Woodside Way’.
  • Ensuring each Headteacher adheres with the frameworks and expectations consistent with ‘The Woodside Way’, whilst at the same time developing their school’s own voice, in line with the personalities, skills and preferences of the Headteacher, staff and student cohort.
  • Promoting Woodside Group’s Mission, Vision and Values, as the central consideration point in decision making.
  • Assisting with the recruitment of new Headteachers and initial staff team, alongside senior members of Woodside Group, in the creation of new schools within the region.
  • Working alongside the CEO; Director of Education; Director of People & Culture; Head of Transformation & Growth; Head of Education; and, Head of Compliance to ensure readiness for Ofsted’s pre-registration visits at new schools.
  • Working in partnership with the Head of Compliance to ensure consistent adherence with all legal and regulatory requirements, including the ISS, across all schools under span of control.
  • Supporting new Headteachers in school setup, coaching and guiding them alongside Woodside Group’s School Development Plan to establish schools in their infancy.
  • To work closely with the Head of Education to understand and explore any new initiatives in line with the Quality of Education Ofsted area, to implement strategies accordingly in the region.
  • To work closely with the Director of Education to understand and explore any new initiatives in line with the Behaviour & Attitudes; Personal Development; and Leadership & Management Ofsted areas, to implement strategies accordingly in the region.
  • Ensuring high standards in the recruitment and retention of staff, with a commitment to safer recruitment practices, as well as a focus on successful onboarding, talent management and staff development.
  • Supporting the Transitions Lead in the acquisition of the initial student cohort and facilitating efficient working relationships between the Transitions Lead and Headteacher in order to ensure student numbers in line with Woodside Group expectations for the phase of school growth.
  • Working with Headteachers to make sure that each school in the region makes a positive and tangible contribution to the school community, but also the community within which they are situated.
  • Assuring the quality of Headteacher and school adherence with autism best practice and LOtC methodology, through the reinforcement of Woodside’s Mission, Vision and Values as a central point of decision making and strategic focus.
  • Supporting and mentoring incoming Executive Headteachers for other regions, as necessary, supporting them in embracing ‘The Woodside Way’.
  • Leading regular Headteacher meetings in your region.
  • Annually working alongside Headteachers to evaluate the effectiveness of the school, in line with Woodside Group’s School Evaluation Form, resulting in the creation of a School Improvement Plan for each school in the region.
  • Regularly assessing school performance, in line with the School Improvement Plan and other frameworks for agile and dynamic interventions, where necessary.
  • Frequently visiting all schools within the region to connect with Headteacher, staff and students.
  • Engaging Headteachers in conversations relating to the educational phase of each learner, as well as the plans in accordance with the determined phase.
  • Keeping up to date with latest developments in autism best practice, as well as regulatory reform and leadership methodologies.
  • Supporting Headteachers in the facilitation of Quality Assurance processes involving Local Authorities, or other stakeholders.
  • Managing and coaching Headteachers, following completion of the School Development Plan, in line with the Woodside Group Headteacher Matrix.
  • Engaging Headteachers in conversation and strategic planning around the analysis and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data gathered through staff’s performance alongside Woodside Group performance matrices.
  • Maintaining an awareness of parental relationships, providing guidance and intervention, where appropriate.
  • Engaging with data relating to staff and student behaviour, with particular focus on, and high expectations of: attendance; punctuality; relationships; instances of RPI; and attitudes to learning.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to value for money through engaging Headteachers in conversation around investment in resources, as well as through ensuring adherence with financial practices.

  • Uphold Safer Recruitment practices in recruitment activities

  • To inform and advise the organisation and its employees about their obligations to comply with the GDPR and other data protection laws.
  • To monitor compliance with the GDPR and other data protection laws, including managing internal data protection activities, advise on data protection impact assessments and conduct internal audits.
  • To manage and maintain a relationship with 3rd party Data Protection agencies
  • To lead on any future audits, where necessary.

Health & Safety Responsibilities (The first bullet point is generic for all profiles, add in extra responsibilities where applicable)

  • All employees are responsible for ensuring they take every reasonable action to keep themselves and everyone in the school environment safe and well.
  • Responsibility for base H&S Compliance,
  • Work in partnership with the Head of Compliance to undertake internal audits and ensure complete actions arising from the internal action log.
  • Guarantee the presence of risk assessments of base activities in line with the risk assessment policy.
  • Maintain an up to date electronic record of all matters pertaining to health and safety and risk assessments.
  • Ensure each base has the right basic health and safety equipment such as first aid boxes, signage etc.
  • Direct contractors and workmen to repair and maintenance jobs and quality assure their work.
  • Ensure emergency procedures are in place for in the event of fire, flood, break-in accident or major damage, using LRB to help you get a system in place across each and to educate staff.
  • Take appropriate action to prevent trespass on the school grounds and report incidents of trespass or vandalism.
  • Ensure that all grounds are litter and hazard free, ensure all staff understand they share this responsibility
  • Ensure all staff receive a health and safety induction
  • Monitor severe weather warning reports and alert staff with instructions
  • Organise annual H&S training refreshers
  • Work with Managers to ensure new starters receive a H&S induction
  • Clarify and communicate to all staff the security procedures for the school and its grounds.
  • Attend relevant training as and when necessary in order to secure the most up-to-date knowledge and skills to carry out the duties of the post.
  • When required, perform any additional duties necessary to maintain the school building and grounds to a high standard of cleanliness and safety.
  • Ensure the efficient maintenance, safety, risk assessments and security of the school and its grounds at all times in accordance with HSE guidance and standards, working with LRB to achieve this
