                    Safety Manager   Reports to: General Manager Quality, Safety, Risk and Audit Location: Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea Air Niugini is seeking an experienced and strategic Safety Manager to lead and strengthen our corporate Safety Management System (SMS) across the enterprise. This is a critical executive role responsible for safeguarding operational integrity, regulatory compliance, and safety performance across flight operations, engineering, and corporate functions. Reporting to the General Manager Quality, Safety, Risk and Audit, the Safety Manager will provide independent oversight and leadership of the airline’s Safety Management System in full compliance with regulatory and company requirements, including Part 119, 141 and 145 Expositions. Accountability * End-to-end administration and continuous improvement of the Corporate SMS * Development and oversight of the Corporate Emergency Response Plan (ERP) * Oversight and management of corporate-level occurrence investigations * Maintaining the integrity of occurrence and hazard reporting databases * Ensuring regulatory compliance, including Part 12 occurrence reporting requirements * Reporting high-risk matters directly to executive leadership * Presenting safety performance and corrective action status to the Safety Review Board (SRB) * Producing monthly safety performance reports and contributing to Board papers * Ensuring safety documents, manuals, and training programs remain current and compliant * Liaising with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) on safety matters * Promoting a strong, embedded safety culture across the organisation * Providing quality assurance oversight across all safety processes This role holds full authority to access facilities, systems, personnel, and records necessary to conduct safety assessments and investigations, and to approve or amend the Corporate SMS and ERP manuals. Leadership & Corporate Contribution The Safety Manager will: * Champion a proactive safety culture organisation-wide * Coach and mentor Safety and Quality personnel * Provide expert advisory support to senior leaders on risk mitigation * Support commercial sustainability through disciplined budget and business planning within the Safety Office Experience, Skills & Qualifications We are seeking a confident and credible aviation professional with: * Minimum 5 years’ aviation experience (flight operations or maintenance background preferred) * At least 3 years’ airline management experience in Flight Operations, Engineering, or Safety Systems * Demonstrated capability in conducting safety investigations and producing high-quality investigation reports * Strong working knowledge of causal analysis and risk assessment methodologies * Audit experience equivalent to conducting Level 2 audits * Solid understanding of ICAO Doc 9859 Safety Management Manual * Excellent analytical, communication, and influencing skills * Proven ability to lead small teams and operate with integrity and independence * Lead Auditor Certificate (recognized institution) * Certificate in Safety Management or equivalent tertiary qualification (e.g., MBA or Business/Management degree) * Emergency Response training from a recognized provider This is a high-impact executive opportunity to shape and elevate safety performance within a complex airline environment.
