Overview
Reporting to the President, Canadian Residential, the Executive Vice President, Development (“EVP”) will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Canadian development projects, primarily consisting of multi-family purpose built rental projects from inception to completion. This role requires a strategic leader with extensive experience in real estate leading teams and driving results. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Canadian real estate market and investment dynamics surrounding executing development projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement strategic plans for development projects, aligning with the company’s goals and growth objectives. Identify market trends, opportunities, and risks to inform strategic decisions.
Project Management: Oversee the entire lifecycle of development projects, including site acquisition, project planning, design, approvals and final delivery. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of development and investment professionals, including project managers, planners, architects, city and government officials and other key personnel. Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment with Asset Management and Constructions teams.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including investors and industry partners. Effectively manage stakeholder expectations and address any concerns.
Financial Oversight: Provide oversight and guidance as it relates to the creation of project budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses. Monitor financial performance and implement cost-control measures to maximize profitability.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all projects comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations, including zoning laws, building codes, and environmental requirements. Obtain necessary permits and approvals.
Development Investments Management: Lead and manage the Development Investments team, overseeing the creation and review of financial models for new projects. Ensure accurate and comprehensive financial projections, including cost estimates, revenue forecasts, and investment returns.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with development projects. Working closely with the construction team members, develop and implement risk management strategies to address potential challenges and ensure project success.
Market Analysis: Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and market demands.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Business, Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certification is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in real estate investment, with at least 5 years in a leadership role related to managing Canadian residential. Proven track record of successful project delivery and team management.
