The purpose of this entry level position is to timely process incoming applications for exemptions. This is accomplished by receiving and processing various exemption applications and communicating with property owners. This position requires representing the appraisal district in keeping the public informed and updated with any current laws or requirements to properly approve the exemptions applications.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must successfully complete TDLR courses 101, 102, 4 and 7 within 2 years of employment.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • <2 years of general office related experience
    Job Responsibilities

General Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service support to the front counter, property owners, and phone bank.
  • Perform data entry for homestead applications for residential exemptions.
  • Perform basic research on homestead exemptions, name changes, homestead exemptions holds, and quarterly exemption reports.
  • Enter data for verified homestead exemptions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of new and revised tax laws and proper tax codes and important deadlines for action.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Texas Property Tax Code laws and regulations
  • Computer software in MS Office environment
  • Web based search tools

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Positions in this class typically require repetitive motions, walking, talking and hearing. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time with ability to reach, bend and move up/down on steps. Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment with ability to effectively communicate by phone, e-mail, writing and face to face required. Must be able to lift up to 50-pound file boxes. The position requires considerable concentration, creativity and ability to manage time effectively. The position is subject to stress caused by a changing public environment, mandatory deadlines and heavy workload. Requires the ability to ask questions that will bring forth the information needed to make sound decisions.
