Are you passionate about art, exhibitions, and hands-on technical work? Join our dynamic team at Birmingham City University as an Exhibition Technician and help bring creative visions to life.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Exhibition Technician to support the delivery and maintenance of high-quality exhibitions and events across the University and at external venues. Working within the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media, you will play a key role in shaping our vibrant public-facing culture.
This part-time role (0.8 FTE) offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to BCU’s renowned exhibition programme, supporting students, staff, and external clients in the installation and display of creative work.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install and deinstall exhibitions and events in studios, breakout areas, galleries, and external venues.
  • Construct frames, plinths and bespoke structures using wood and metalwork materials.
  • Advise on technical installation methods and provide support to curators, academic teams, and students.
  • Maintain and develop the University’s permanent collection display.
  • Manage exhibition hardware and oversee budgets, stock, and loan systems.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and University policy.
  • Support administrative functions including raising purchase orders and record-keeping.
    You will have a degree or equivalent experience in a relevant subject or technical specialism, proven hands-on experience in exhibition installation and event support, ideally within both educational and industry contexts and strong carpentry and AV equipment skills, with an eye for creative display solutions.
    You will also have good organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, a clear understanding of health and safety protocols and manual handling requirements and willingness to work across multiple campuses and external venues, with some flexibility required for events.
