POSITION SUMMARY

The Exito K-3 Literacy Tutor works in the Éxito K-3 Literacy Strategy program, providing targeted literacy interventions to current 2 nd grade students and follows those same students through 3 rd grade to ensure they read proficiently by 4 th grade while simultaneously providing case management and family supportive services to ensure a holistic environment for student academic success. This position works in the in-school and afterschool space and targets the highest need students to provide literacy interventions and assessments. The Exito K-3 Literacy Tutor supports small groups of students with identified academic barriers to test and implement a variety of literacy interventions and monitor student progress. This position collaborates with the Literacy Specialist to support the design and implementation of literacy interventions with the main goal of developing students’ proficient reading skills to support their academic growth.
This position reports to the Exito K-3 Literacy Specialist . This is an ONSITE position with work conducted at Congreso’s office building(s), Pan American Academy Charter School (PAACS), and Julia De Burgos (JDB) .

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education :
High School Diploma or GED Diploma required. Associate degree in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field and two years of experience with children preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

2 years’ work experience in early childhood education or afterschool settings providing literacy and academic support.
Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong literacy and communication skills.
Knowledge of the Latino and urban community of Philadelphia, a plus.

  • Collaborates with the Literacy Specialist to develop a targeted approach of delivering 1:1 or small group instruction to students using a variety of activities to reinforce learning and development.
  • Collaborates with the Literacy Specialist to develop individualized student learning goals, achievements, and overall progress to ensure client success.
  • Sets individual and small group goals for literacy milestones based on student data and ensures lesson plans are tied to desired milestones.
  • Works with small groups of students with identified academic barriers to test and implements a variety of academic interventions and monitor student progress.
  • Monitors homework completion and reading minutes as determined by model outcomes.
  • Documents each session with the skills practiced or mastered and a goal for the next session.
  • Communicates on an ongoing basis with the Literacy Specialist as well as classroom instructors, school administrators to provide student progress updates.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
