Participants will learn about sustainable gardening and research information on food deserts and organic foods. Objectives are to learn gardening skills, understand health food preparation, and basic graphic design (for the booklet).   Job Duties:   Youth will work with Near Peer coach and ASU staff on project development and execution. Activities/responsibilities will involve researching food choices, building a community garden, creating a high school friendly booklet. Youth will work on computers, to aid in graphic design relative to producing the recipe booklet and hosting a cooking demonstration at the end of the project.   Preferred Competencies:   Active listening, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, communication skills, curiosity, and self- management/motivation.     General Information: Work Schedule Days and Hours:   Monday-Friday: 11:00am-3:00pm daily. Working Conditions: (example: Office Warehouse, Outdoors, with Children or Animals, etc.)   Outdoor/Indoor classroom   The full program is June 1st – July 17th    June 1st – June 3rd:        Interns attend assigned worksite for scheduled times. June 4th:                         POWER Youth Summit at Sheraton Music City Nashville Airport June 5th – July 17th:       Team Members on site at their agencies on Monday-Friday at the time              scheduled by employer.  You will be scheduled to work 4 hours daily             which equals 20 hours per week. July 13th – July 17th:      POWER Youth Summer Employment Program - End of Summer             Celebration – Team Members can showcase their projects from the              summer.              If you are selected as an Experience Work Team Member, you will make $12.00 an hour and receive a summer program with project-based employment for youth ages 14 -15. Experience Work projects can be focused on the arts, leadership skills or community development. In addition, you will learn “work ready” skills for future employment. The POWER Youth program, previously known as Opportunity NOW, provides career exploration and work experience activities for youth 14 to 24 years old. The name POWER Youth was selected by the peer youth leadership team based on how they view themselves and their future.
