JOB DESCRIPTION

Lansglade Homes Limited currently have a vacancy for an experienced Chef/Cook to work at one of our Nursing Homes in Bedford, providing an excellent standard of food and nutrition to our Elderly Residents.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • To plan and provide nutritious meals for all residents on a daily basis.
  • To liaise regularly with the Home Manager to ensure residents dietary needs are being met at all times.
  • Plan for and provide any special dietary requirements, including and not limited to, soft and liquidised, diabetic, gluten free, vegetarian, low fat and low salt diets.
  • Prepare and provide food for staff as per company policy.
  • Ensure that the kitchen and food storage areas are left clean and tidy
  • To assist in the formal monitoring and recording of fridge and freezer temperatures in accordance with Environmental Health requirements, and to ensure their verification with a calibrated thermometer, according to procedure.
  • Make sure that chemicals are used and stored correctly and safety procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • Understand and ensure the implementation of the Home’s Health and Safety, Infection Control and Hygiene policies, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
  • Report to the Home Manager, or the Maintenance Team any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
  • Contribute to the safeguarding of adults by ensuring you are aware of your role in relation to the company’s Safeguarding Adults Policy, taking steps to protect residents from any form of abuse or neglect and use the appropriate reporting systems to inform the homes management of any concerns.
  • To assist the Home Manager in the resolution of any complaints concerning the catering service.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience in food preparation and cooking within a care home or similar environment
  • Strong culinary skills with a focus on meal preparation and food safety
  • Previous kitchen experience, preferably in a restaurant setting
  • Ability to create nutritious and appealing meals tailored to residents’ dietary needs
  • Knowledge of food handling regulations and safety practices
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills in a kitchen environment

    Pay: £12.68-£13.20 per hour
