REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • 7+ years experience in garage/overhead door installation and service (residential + commercial preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to quote and sell on-site (residential and commercial quoting experience).
  • Deep technical knowledge of torsion springs, cables, drums, sections, tracks, rollers, operators and door safety systems.
  • Comfortable with ladder work, heavy lifting and working at heights.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; willingness to travel across Vancouver Island.
  • Clean criminal record
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills; punctual and professional.
  • Comfortable using a tablet/phone app for job tickets, photos and invoicing; ServiceTitan experience is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work autonomously in the field.

PHYSICAL & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

This role is physically demanding — heavy lifting, overhead work, and ladder work are routine. Strict adherence to PPE and safe spring-handling procedures is required.

Responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY

We’re hiring an experienced Overhead Door Technician based out of our Parksville shop. This role combines hands-on service and installation with on-site quoting and sales for residential and commercial customers. You’ll travel island-wide, manage jobs from start to finish, and represent Hunter Garage Doors with professionalism and technical expertise.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Diagnose, repair and maintain residential and commercial overhead doors — springs, cables, drums, rollers, tracks, sections and hardware.
  • Perform full door installations, torsion spring changes and operator installs (belt, chain, jackshaft).
  • Produce accurate on-site quotes and proposals for residential and commercial projects, explain options, and close sales.
  • Install and configure door openers and accessories (keypads, remotes, sensors, safety devices).
  • Manage service calls end-to-end: arrival, troubleshooting, repair/installation, paperwork, photos and invoicing.
  • Maintain a tidy, well-stocked truck and manage receiving and organizing inventory in Parksville shop.
  • Record time, parts used and job notes using mobile field software.
  • Mentor and train junior technicians as needed.
  • Ability to complete overnight and out-of-area work is required.
