As a small, independent consulting group, we are focused on providing high quality technical advice, drilling and geotechnical services and field validation for projects throughout Alberta and British Columbia.
What a day at Taylor Geotechnical has in store for you…Reporting to the Professional Engineer, the Intermediate Geotechnical Technician will work closely with Project Engineers to conduct geotechnical investigations, field reviews, conducting materials testing, and reporting in both the field and laboratory for projects mainly in and around, but not limited to the Bow Valley, Columbia Valley and Greater Front Ranges Area. The successful candidate will spend their time both in the field on project sites and in the lab conducting materials testing, with further responsibilities assigned dependent upon level experience and proficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Environmental/Geological/Civil Technician or Technology Diploma (required or 3-5 years equivalent job experience)

OR

  • Engineering Degree OR Geology Degree
  • Preference given to those with 2+ years of related field experience (3 + years if no formal certification or education)
  • Excellent and concise communication skills (verbal/written) in English
  • Experience in the preparation of daily field reports and testing records
  • Strong people skills and ability to work with a wide variety of staff and clients
  • Must be comfortable working in the field on construction project sites
  • Willingness to travel with a flexible schedule
  • Physically fit to perform the duties of the position
  • Certifications (asset but not required): Nuclear Gauge Training,
Responsibilities
  • Soil logging for Geotechnical Investigations by method of drilling or test pit excavation
  • Complete on-site concrete tests, which include casting cylinders, slump test, and air content tests
  • Conduct In Place Density testing using a Nuclear Densometer
  • Carry out asphalt and concrete coring
  • Collect soil samples, asphalt hot-mix samples on site
  • Perform subgrade field inspections
  • Problem-solving of construction material and geotechnical issues
  • Effectively communicate and interact with clients and contractors to provide excellent customer service and a quick response to their testing needs while conferring with our team.
  • In-lab work, such as testing concrete cylinders, grain size analysis, Proctor tests, asphalt tests, geotechnical index testing, hydrometers etc.
  • Make sure all work conforms to CCIL, ASTM and other company and industry standards
  • Attend staff and project meetings when requested
  • Other duties as required by direct supervisor
