An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join the multidisciplinary team at Bryngolau Ward, Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli. This is a 30-hour post within Older Adult Mental Health, providing excellent opportunity to develop and enhance your clinical skills within the OT framework.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering holistic, client centred care, focusing on promoting independence and maintaining functional skills. You will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support effective and safe discharge planning for patients.

The post offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic multi-disciplinary team . You will have a specific interest in Older Adult Mental Health and demonstrate an enthusiasm for the role. You will be keen to develop b est p ractice in compliance with Dementia Standards and A Healthier Wales.
The post holder will be required to develop positive relationships between all healthcare professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies, maintaining good communication across all areas.
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning and intervention of clients who experience cognitive loss. You will have a varied caseload to include younger onset dementia sufferers and people living with functional mental health issues.
There will be opportunity to develop group work skills and deliver ground-breaking, evidenced based interventions such as Recovery Through Activity.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.
We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.
We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

OUR SERVICES ARE PROVIDED IN:

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services
    This post is advertised as a Band 6, however applicants who do not currently hold all the necessary competencies to a Band 6 level are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will be appointed under Annex 21 rules whereby 65% of the top of Band 6 will be payable in the first year, 70% in second year and 75% in third year. Applicants would be supported to develop their competencies required to fulfil the role within a 36 month period. Following successful completion and successful attainment of the skills and competencies for the role, the post holder will then be paid at Band 6 (minimum point on the scale). Failure to achieve the competencies in the designated timeframe could result in re-deployment.
    As part of the Annex 21 process, there is no financial penalty to those who apply for this role where the percentage will cause a reduction in pay, subsequently a local protection would be put in place until the pay has caught up.
    Please note, we are not able to offer this post to Newly Qualified OT’s .
    Occupational Therapists within Hywel Dda have access to regular supervision and annual PADRs. Continuing professional development opportunities include attending Clinical Practice meetings, Clinical Case Supervision, Peer Support opportunities, Occupational Therapy specific training and opportunities to engage in Post Graduate Qualifications.
