POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking an experienced, customer-focused individual to join our Produce Team. This position will primarily be scheduled for closing shifts, typically working from midday through the evening, (approximately10:00pm). In this role, you will provide exceptional customer service by creating a welcoming shopping experience while assisting customers with product selection, availability, and questions about fresh produce. The ideal candidate brings prior produce experience and a strong knowledge of fruits and vegetables, including seasonality, quality indicators, proper handling practices, and product presentation. Responsibilities include receiving and stocking product, rotating inventory to ensure freshness, building and maintaining attractive displays, and helping keep the department clean, organized, and fully stocked. Working collaboratively with fellow team members, this position supports department and store goals while maintaining the high standards of quality, freshness, and presentation our customers expect. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional customer service. Give every customer immediate and undivided attention. * Follow through on all guest questions and requests * Ensure that food quality, freshness, and presentation meet all company standards * Keep department supplies filled and maintained * Rinse and trim produce items * Prepare special cuts per customers request * Follow established food safety procedures * Keep all cases and shelves clean, well stocked and properly rotated * Organize, stock, and rotate, while continuously checking and insuring freshness and quality of products * Maintain accurate retail pricing and signage * Document department transfers, waste and spoilage using appropriate forms * Sample department products to customers * Know product availability, preparation, storage, and nutritional aspects * Be aware of new products and their placement * Maintain back stock areas and coolers * Practice safe use of all tools and equipment required by position * Know and practice proper lifting techniques * Properly package and wrap products for retail sale * Practice proper care and maintenance of all equipment * Help cross-merchandise product with other departments * Understand why our products are different than conventional stores, and be able to explain to customers * Accept and process product from receiver * Answer telephones with proper etiquette when time permits QUALIFICATIONS: * Excellent customer service skills * Ability to work well within a team * Ability to communicate to customers and other associates * Able to meet physical job requirements * Must have a passion for food and people * Must be self-motivated and solution-oriented * Must be able to obtain a food handler's permit * Is available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department * Desire to learn PHYSICAL DEMAND: * Stand for long periods of time * Interact with a diverse group of individuals * Lift and/or move a minimum of 15 to 50 pounds WORK ENVIRONMENT: * Exposure to temperature variations and wet conditions * May walk and work on uneven surfaces * Requires reaching above and below shoulder height * Some exposure to dust, gas, fumes, and chemicals * May need to use a ladder or stool to reach product or supplies * Exposure to continuous background and occasional loud noises * Walking surfaces are sometimes slick * Repetitive stretching and lifting required * Any item over 50 pounds requires a team lift * Repetitive use of hands with power grasping and fine manipulation * Use of ladders, box cutters and knives Position pay range, $18 - $25 per hour, depending on experience
