Unit Description: The Medical ICU at UPMC Shadyside is a 20-bed critical care facility, the largest of Shadyside’s ICUs. You can expect to see procedures such as tracheostomies and bronchoscopies right at the bedside, as well as the use of ventilators, vasopressors, and CRRT machines. We are very team-oriented here, which is important as the MICU can feel hectic at times; the MICU is an extremely rewarding environment for nurses who enjoy thinking on their feet to meet challenges and solve problems. Work productively and effectively in an environment with changing priorities that require specialized skills. Think critically to analyze and problem-solve to deliver the best patient care. Use sound clinical judgment and problem-solving to deliver quality patient care when it matters most. Understand, apply, and champion nursing best practices. Ability to work productively and effectively within complex environments and handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
