Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

With this exciting opportunity your main responsibilities will include:

  • Work in close collaboration with Discipline Development Leads, as well as rig operators and technicians in our on-site engineering laboratory to deliver a suite of experimental testing programmes.
  • Develop and deploy integrated testing programmes using state of the art optical flow measurement technology to investigate thermal hydraulic phenomena of interest.
  • Collaborate with the analytical community in the development of high fidelity analytical methods.
  • Be expected to take full ownership for long term roadmaps for all technology areas (including thermal hydraulic, high fidelity measurement, acoustic, component, shock, EC&I, physics, materials and secondary propulsion testing) and for both new and existing test facilities, including their delivery.There may also be opportunities to engage with external organisations and in research projects at our University Technology Centres, particularly in relation to fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and novel experimental measurement techniques in the near-term, and potentially in other areas in the future.

To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following essential criteria:

  • Experience of conducting experimental testing to support technical development or V&V, relevant to engineering.
  • Understanding measurement techniques, methods and accuracies.
  • Experience with optical based measurement technologies is highly desirable.
  • Good IT skills, including experience of data processing and knowledge of python.
  • Good interpersonal, time management and problem solving skills.
  • An analytical mind with good numeracy and literacy.
  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering or science-based subject
