Position Overview:
The Experimental Equipment Technician will provide hands-on support of mechanical and electrical equipment related to General Fusion’s large scale experimental projects. The technician will be part of a team that builds, maintains and operates an assortment of complex and unique equipment, machinery, and testing apparatuses.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years of experience operating complex test equipment in an experimental context
  • Hands-on troubleshooting for prototype systems
  • Design skills including CAD, use of additive protype equipment, basic electronics and metal fabrication
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Organized mindset and ability to keep a tidy shop floor
  • Ability to lift up to 20 kg
  • Basic computer literacy (Excel, Outlook)

Preferred:

  • Experience with high-voltage or high-energy electrical systems
  • Experience with electrical troubleshooting equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other lab equipment
  • Experience with optical equipment such as high-speed cameras, lasers, interferometers etc.
  • PLC programming or related control system experience ( e.g. National Instruments)
  • Experience working with mechanical assemblies and equipment, such as automobile repair or other mechanical systems.
  • Experience working with, and safely moving large equipment. Forklift, crane, and rigging experience an asset.
  • Hobby project experience with any combination of the above skills.

This role requires self-directed work that is often driven by employee initiative. The successful candidate will have the experience and expertise to focus their attention on tasks that add value to the project.
The typical hiring range for this position is $48,000 - $57,000. General Fusion considers several factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills, and experience, proficiency, job location, and internal equity.
