QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field (required); an advanced degree or specialization in mineral exploration, economic geology, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Strong foundation in geological principles – including mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, and geochemistry – as well as familiarity with ore deposit models and exploration techniques.
• Experience with geological mapping, sampling, and data interpretation in a field setting (through internships, field courses, or prior work experience).
• Proficiency in using geological software and tools.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal – capable of documenting findings in reports and conveying technical information to engineers, managers, or other stakeholders clearly
• Ability to work in remote and challenging environments for extended periods.
• Valid driver’s license and any relevant professional certification or licensure (e g , P Geo or state licensure) if required by the jurisdiction

ROLE OVERVIEW/DESCRIPTION:

An Exploration Geologist uses expertise in geology and geophysics to search for and evaluate mineral, oil, gas, or other natural resource deposits beneath the earth’s surface.

• This role involves planning and conducting exploration programs—ranging from field mapping and sampling to overseeing drilling and geophysical surveys—to identify where economically viable mineral or energy resources may be located
• The work is typically split between on-site fieldwork (often in remote or rugged locations) and office-based analysis and mapping, as the geologist interprets data and assesses the size, quality, and potential profitability of discoveries
• They work closely with engineers and other specialists to determine whether and how a deposit can be extracted, contributing critical geological insight to guide decision-making in mining or exploration projects

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and execute site exploration programs, including selecting survey areas and methods for identifying resource deposits
• Conduct geological field investigations such as geological mapping, surveying, and collecting rock/soil samples.
• Utilize various exploration techniques (e g, surface mapping, drilling core analysis, geochemical sampling, geophysical surveys) to gather subsurface data and pinpoint the location, size, and quality of potential ore bodies or reservoirs
• Analyze geological data (maps, assay results, geophysical readings) to assess resource quality and quantity and integrate findings into geological models and maps
• Work closely with mining engineers and project teams to evaluate the feasibility of extraction, assisting in designing drilling programs and mine plans based on geological findings
• Identify and advise on any geological hazards or safety risks during exploration (such as unstable ground or gas pockets) and ensure field activities follow safety protocols
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations on exploration results, communicating findings and recommendations to stakeholders in clear terms
• Stay up-to-date with the latest geological exploration methods and software tools, and apply new technologies to improve the efficiency and accuracy of exploration efforts
