Description EXPLOSIVE DETECTION K9 OFFICER Position Title: Explosive Detection K9 Officer Employment Type: As Needed Location: Pittsburgh, PA and Surrounding Areas Compensation: Competitive Hourly Rate (Based on Experience and Certifications) Position Summary We are seeking highly motivated and professional Explosive Detection K9 Officers to join our security team. Officers will be responsible for conducting explosive detection screenings, maintaining control and care of assigned K9 partners, and providing a visible security presence at critical infrastructure sites, special events, transportation hubs, corporate facilities, and other designated client locations. The ideal candidate possesses strong observational skills, excellent judgment, and the ability to work effectively in dynamic environments while maintaining the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and operational readiness. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct explosive detection sweeps of buildings, vehicles, packages, and designated areas utilizing a trained detection K9. Perform pre-event, during-event, and post-event security inspections. Maintain constant control and supervision of assigned K9 partner. Respond to potential threats, suspicious packages, and emergency situations in accordance with company policies and client protocols. Prepare accurate and detailed reports documenting inspections, incidents, and daily activities. Work closely with law enforcement, emergency responders, event management personnel, and client representatives. Conduct routine foot patrols and security assessments. Ensure proper care, grooming, feeding, transportation, and health monitoring of assigned K9. Maintain all required certifications, training records, and deployment readiness standards. Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining a professional security presence. Qualifications Own a EOD K9 that has current/valid certifications High school diploma or GED required. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to pass a background investigation and drug screening. Prior military, law enforcement, security, or K9 handling experience preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during high-pressure situations. Must be physically capable of walking, standing, climbing stairs, and working outdoors for extended periods. Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and special events. Preferred Certifications Explosive Detection K9 Handler Certification. NAPWDA, USPCA, AK9I, DHS, TSA, or equivalent recognized K9 certifications. FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) training preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to safely handle and transport a working K9.
