PAY RANGE

$41.93 - $61.57 Hourly
$41.93 - $51.33 Hourly for the 531.2 Level
$50.28 - $61.57 Hourly for the 531.3 Level

Job Description
We have an opening for an Electronics Technologist/Sr. Electronics Technologist. You will provide engineering technician support for facility/infrastructure and programmatic related work activities, including maintenance, repairs, replacements, minor modification, and/or tenant improvements at S300. This position is in the Strategic Deterrence Facilities Operations and Support Division within the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Directorate.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience with electronic test equipment and data acquisition hardware.
  • Experience identifying, recommending solutions, and resolving complex technical problems using decision making, field experience and judgement.
  • Ability to read and follow engineering schematics, drawings, and/or procedures.
  • Knowledge of engineering hardware design and testing processes.
  • Experience in general fabrication processes with the ability to solder and use hand tools.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in safe work practices.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to participate in task on-the-job training, such as operational or equipment training.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AT THE 531.3 LEVEL

  • Significant related experience in electronic circuits, systems, theory, and design.
  • Advanced level technical skills and knowledge of engineering principles to solve complex problems using established guidelines, techniques, and procedures and the ability to interpret and execute complex assembly procedures from engineering notes, sketches, drawings, and other technical material.
  • Advanced skills and demonstrated understanding of relevant technologies and processes, including component to system level understanding of electronics while applying the knowledge of electronics, software, instrumentation and controls, or electro-optic theory and ability to solve circuitry or system challenges.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, feedback, and presentation skills.

QUALIFICATIONS WE DESIRE

  • Experience operating high-speed video cameras.
  • Experience working with and/or around high-voltage and high-current equipment.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Experience with HART transmitters and other safety interlock systems components.

Responsibilities

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

  • Provide general electronic technical support to Engineers, Scientists, and other technical staff to plan and conduct facility operations.
  • Design, fabricate, and maintain moderately complex electronic systems.
  • Author and/or maintain systems documentation, experimental records, and review and update procedures/manuals.
  • Perform facility related technical functions such as maintenance, testing, and upgrades to equipment.
  • Ensure that support and experimental areas are kept clean, uncluttered, and in a state of readiness.
  • Document system setups such as one-line drawings and provide formal reports to leads.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with Environmental, Safety, and Health policies and procedures; ensure compliance with all federal, state, and LLNL environmental regulatory requirements and policies.
  • Setup diagnostics per experimentalist’s requirements.
  • Operate electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes/digitizers, power supplies, high speed cameras, delay generators, temperature controllers, etc.) for facility operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
