Bell Gully is independently recognised as having New Zealand’s leading litigation and dispute resolution practice. Working at Bell Gully will provide the opportunity to work with expert advocates on complex, interesting disputes, and to work with a range of clients including iconic New Zealand brands, iwi, innovative start-ups, leading multinationals, global investment banks, financial institutions and government agencies. We aim for excellence and our people are the foundation for our continued success.
About the role
We are looking for Judges Clerks finishing at the end of 2025/January 2026 to join our Litigation department as third year lawyers in 2026, in both our Auckland and Wellington office.
You will be working on some of New Zealand’s most complex and significant commercial and public law litigation, including cases going to trial or arbitration, matters resolving within mediations and negotiations, regulatory investigations, and risk and advisory work.
Bell Gully’s commercial litigation practice is one of New Zealand’s largest. We have been independently recognised as New Zealand’s top practice, including winning Benchmark Litigation’s New Zealand Litigation Firm of the Year award in 2020, 2021, and 2024, and both Chambers Asia Pacific and The Legal 500 Asia Pacific rank us in the top tier, Band 1, for litigation.
We are known for our depth of experience, strong advocacy skills, and strategic commercial judgement. We enjoy working on challenging, high-profile and precedent-setting cases for our clients.
Culture and benefits

In addition to a strong team culture, we offer a range of benefits and initiatives to help our people maintain a healthy and enjoyable lifestyle. This includes:

  • professional development opportunities,
  • community support programmes,
  • a comprehensive health and wellbeing programme,
  • a working from home policy,
  • an annual subsidy for health insurance and a range of wellbeing activities,
  • sports teams, an annual ball, regular team events and department weekends away.

Please apply, via the link below, and attach your CV and academic transcript by 5pm 8 June 2025, or contact Kelly Price in our HR team on (09) 916 8878 for a confidential discussion.
