Description

SNB Forest Products Marketing Board (SNBFPMB) was formed in 1979 and is the largest of the seven marketing boards in New Brunswick. It represents over 8000 private woodlot owners who collectively own 1 million acres of forested land in the counties of Albert, Kings, Queens, Saint John, and the parish of Salisbury in Westmorland County.
Our organization is growing, and we are looking for an enthusiastic and talented individual to join our team as an Extension Forester / Extension Forest Technician, to work within our Forest Management Department.
Reporting to the General Manager, the ideal candidate will have 2 or more years experience in a broad range of forest management and related subjects relevant to the private woodlot sector.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

· Post-secondary technical diploma or degree in forestry.
· Active certification by the Association of Registered Professional Foresters of NB (RPF) or New Brunswick Forest Technicians Association Inc (CFT) or, be eligible and in pursuit of the accreditation.
· Two or more years of experience in the field of forestry.
· Knowledge and experience in silviculture treatments, harvest prescriptions, and harvest systems.
· Experience with GPS/GIS technologies and post processing procedures.
· Knowledge of relative provincial/federal environmental regulations related to forest practices.
· High degree of financial management and analytical skills.
· Valid driver’s license and dependable means of transportation.

Responsibilities

· Provide woodlot owners and producers with professional advice and guidance on matters related to effectively managing private land in the SNB region.
· Provide owners and producers with technical guidance and support in the development of detailed harvest prescriptions.
· Develop comprehensive forest management plans designed to meet landowner objectives and enhance the resilience of their woodlots.
· Promote the SNBFPMB organization as the “go-to” source for the latest in forest management advice and knowledge.
· Deliver programs and services funded by SNBFPMB including:
o Woodlot road location and watercourse crossings.
o Woodlot boundary line reconnaissance & maintenance.
o Alternative harvesting treatments such as shelterwood harvesting, commercial thinning and variable thinning.
o Fill planting and under planting.
· Collaborate with other marketing boards to enhance professional knowledge and training opportunities.
· Collaborate with other SNBFPMB staff in the delivery of silviculture programs, marketing and other board services.
