The Dickinson Research Extension Center (DREC) is looking for someone to fill our Conservation Agronomist / Extension Specialist-Coordinator position. This is a full time, benefited position that will develop an innovative extension program to include the identification, assessment, and delivery of educational programs that will facilitate the development of cover crop systems. This position will also provide expertise and continuing education training to Extension agents, clients, and technical service providers and provide leadership in cover cropping systems outreach and leadership.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Coordinator) or master’s degree (Specialist) in agronomy, soil science, or closely related field.
  • Knowledge of cover crop systems, crop production, including crop inputs, crop pest management, soil management, plant nutrition, cultivar evaluation, forage and feed production and new technologies.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Commercial pesticide applicators license (or ability to obtain).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D in agronomy, soil science or a closely related field.
  • Certified Crop Advisor Certificate and/or commercial pesticide applicators license.
  • Evidence of strong collaborations and on-going outreach/research with colleagues, departments and agencies.
  • Documented experience in production agriculture outreach related to production agriculture, especially experience in Northern Great Plains crop production research and Extension programs.
  • Experience in field research related to cover crop management.
  • Experience in the supervision of staff involved with research/outreach.
  • Commercial pesticide applicators license.
  • Certified Crop Advisor.

Responsibilities
  • Develop an innovative Extension program to include identification, assessment, and delivery of educational programs that will facilitate the development and implementation of cover cropping systems. Provide expertise and continuing educational training to Extension agents, clients, technical service providers, and producers.
  • Plan and host field day demonstrations, winter workshops, and develop Extension outreach resources such as publications and multimedia materials.
  • Provide one-on-one education to clients and producers.
  • Provide expertise and continuing educational training to Extension agents, clients, technical service providers, and producers.
  • Develop educational opportunities for Extension agents, technical service providers, clients, and producers.
  • Stay current and assess cover crop production practices within greater North Dakota.
  • Provide leadership in applied research and outreach programs involving cover cropping and systems.
  • Collaborate with other Research Extension Centers, sister agencies, and partners to develop and implement applied research and outreach projects.
  • Seek extramural funding to support Extension programming and applied research.
  • Develop and submit grant applications to supplement the cover crop program.
