Division: Japan Client Business BlackRock’s Japan Business is ranked by Asia Asset Management as the leading institutional asset manager in the region. Our clients are public pensions, corporate pensions, banks, life insurers, official institutions, foundation and endowments. What differentiates us is our local presence: Role Description Reporting to the Head of Client Business Pension Division, this role will work closely with internal stakeholders across our platform to develop new business and client relationships, to determine and execute on the growth strategy for institutional clients in Japan. Responsibilities: Own, develop and strengthen client relationships with new and existing Japan financial institutional clients. Build, motivate and lead a high performing team to achieve commercial success for the institutional business in Japan. Devise and execute business development strategies within Japan institutional business, engaging in senior level dialogue to position BlackRock’s platform in the market. Scope out industry landscape, proactively and independently approach prospect clients, originate and monetize business opportunities. In partnership with relevant stakeholders, present and provide subject matter expertise at client seminars and roadshows etc.; facilitate client’s portfolios and investments service requirements. Take lead in fostering best practice in client management, in partnership with Client Business team and affiliated groups to manage client’s queries and unique demands. Liaise with internal product teams to develop solutions. Regularly monitor mandates with portfolio performance at risk and propose defense strategies and follow up with clients proactively. Skills/Qualifications/Experience: Minimum 10-15 years of sales experience. Solid book of business and client relationships preferably with pension funds, asset managers and other key players in the Japan market. Institutional client sales experience gained from working in a high quality sell or buy-side institution or wealth management firm, and proven expertise in promoting investment products to sophisticated clients. Individuals should ideally have extensive experience in dealing with clients. They will need to employ a wide variety of direct and indirect sales and business development strategies. Extensive knowledge of the structures of clients within Japan, recognizing key decision makers and internal relationships within the divisional structures of these institutions. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the processes and platforms in the business model. Strong interpersonal skills and experience in managing relationships with multi-level contacts, externally and internally. The ability to be both a consultative and strategic seller is also of paramount importance. Self-motivated individual, with a commitment to excellence. Ability to engage with senior level investment professionals in a consultative manner. Experience managing teams of skilled professionals and developing junior talent. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Ability to resolve challenging situations, exercise sensible judgment and handle complex client requirements independently. 2nd Grade of Securities Broker Representative License. Native Japanese speaker and proficient in English.
