EXTERNAL SALES REPRESENTATIVE – SOUTHERN CLUSTER SALES OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an experienced and motivated External Sales Representative to join our Southern Cluster team. In this field-based sales role, you will represent Lawsons Group and build strong, long-lasting relationships with new and existing customers. If you are passionate about selling, have a strong knowledge of timber, fencing, and building materials, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you.
Your focus will be on driving external sales growth across the designated geographical area, identifying new business opportunities, and providing tailored solutions to trade customers. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE – WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN AN EXTERNAL SALES REPRESENTATIVE

  • Proven experience in an external sales, field sales, or business development role, ideally within building materials or related industries (essential).
  • Sound knowledge of fencing, timber, landscaping, or builders merchant products (essential).
  • Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Strong track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to manage your own diary and workload efficiently.
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to identify sales opportunities.
  • Competent IT user, comfortable with CRM and sales reporting systems.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential.

Responsibilities

HOURS AND LOCATION FOR EXTERNAL SALES ROLE

This is a full-time, field-based position covering customers and prospects within the Southern Cluster, reporting to the AVS Havant branch. You will work Monday to Friday, with flexibility required to meet customer needs. Occasional site meetings or events may require additional hours.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES – EXTERNAL SALES & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

  • Proactively identify and secure new business opportunities within the AVS Havant and Southern Cluster sales area.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing trade customers, ensuring ongoing satisfaction, retention, and growth.
  • Visit customer sites, provide expert advice on our products, and offer appropriate product solutions to meet their project requirements.
  • Deliver professional, consultative sales presentations and quotations in line with company guidelines.
  • Meet or exceed agreed sales targets and business development objectives.
  • Work closely with internal branch teams to ensure excellent customer service and smooth order processing.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of customer interactions, leads, and opportunities using CRM systems.
  • Monitor competitor activity and market trends in the building materials, timber, and fencing sector.
  • Promote company values, products, and services at all times, acting as a positive ambassador for Lawsons Group.
