EDUCATION:

Must be enrolled as a York student.

EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience working as a Career Peer Educator, or in a similar role in a post-secondary environment an asset.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to manage a peer team and chair meetings.
  • Ability to build rapport, apply active listening, coaching and or advising skills.
  • Experience making effective referrals. ability to exercise sound judgment in dispensing information and recognize when to go to/refer to professional staff at the Career Centre.
  • Ability to support students and new grads in their job search efforts and career success. proven interest in student success and supporting fellow students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively while facilitating group sessions.
  • Ability to actively seek out and contribute to learning opportunities for self and team members. demonstrate commitment to continuous learning.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to demonstrate responsible, ethical and professional conduct.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and respond in a thoughtful manner.

Responsibilities

The Career Peer Lead will support the Career Centre’s programs and services by increasing awareness of the Career Centre and its services. supporting students in building career self-management skills. creating opportunities for students to make connections. and encouraging dialogue around careers. This position will also provide ongoing support, guidance, and mentorship to the team of Career Peer Educators in all of their duties.
