QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience within the Steel Industry required.
  • Post-Secondary training is considered an asset.
  • A team player who is self-motivated and has strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills that are complemented by effective interpersonal, oral and written communication.
  • Proficient in MS Office software.
  • 3D modeling/viewing (ie. Navisworks, Tekla, etc.) an added benefit.
  • Adaptable and flexible.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE

The Estimator is a critical position within Waiward. Estimators are responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, while ensuring that we know what’s required to successfully bid and win a project. Estimators also work with the Project Management teams to follow-up on bids and budgets to close on business.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.
  • Exercises due diligence in review of Request for Quotation documents.
  • Communicates with clients the process of developing tenders according to the clients specifications.
  • Prepares detailed material take-offs and cost estimates as per company standards.
  • Prepares and submit tenders in accordance with company standards.
  • Follows company procedures for verification and checking of bids.
  • Confirms capacities with Waiward’s Production and Drafting to meet project schedules.
  • Assists in bid-IFC drawing price comparisons.
  • Participates in project postmortems to analyze bid vs. actual.
  • Participates in pre-award negotiations to ensure that contracts offered comply with the terms and conditions.
  • Contributes in the development of project execution strategy.
  • Develops and maintains client relations.
  • Follows up on quotations to determine status.
  • Assists in Contract Change Notice (CCN) pricing as requested.
  • Performs Project Management duties as requested.
