DEPARTMENT: FABRICATION  JOB TITLE: Fabrication Technician  REPORTS TO: Quality Assurance Supervisor PAY GRADE: Assigned per compensation structure FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt JOB SUMMARY The Fabrication Technician is responsible for manufacturing fabricated custom products while ensuring compliance with company, customer, and quality specifications. This position performs material calculations, product fabrication, inspections, testing, and documentation to ensure finished products meet established quality standards. The Fabrication Technician interprets specifications, fabricates standard and custom products, maintains accurate production records, and communicates quality concerns while supporting safe and efficient production operations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  * Fabricate standard and custom products in accordance with customer specifications, production orders, and the Fabrication Manual. * Read and interpret production orders, specification sheets, engineering drawings, and Fabrication Manual instructions to determine fabrication requirements. * Calculate raw material requirements, production quantities, and labor requirements to efficiently complete fabrication orders. * Measure, cut, assemble, and bond materials to manufacture fabricated products including elbows, tees, P-traps, and other custom components. * Design and fabricate new or custom products based on customer requirements when products are not covered by the Fabrication Manual. * Perform in-process and final quality inspections to verify compliance with dimensional, appearance, and customer specifications. * Inspect and document product characteristics including inside diameter (ID), wall thickness, length, appearance, piece count, and other required specifications. * Utilize quality measuring equipment including digital calipers, ID gauges, tape measures, and other inspection tools to verify product conformance. * Accurately complete production documentation, inspection records, quality reports, and other required documentation. * Calculate production completion dates based on material availability, production priorities, and estimated labor requirements. * Operate fabrication equipment and hand tools, including band saws, knives, scissors, and other fabrication equipment, in accordance with established safety procedures. * Monitor product quality throughout the fabrication process and identify, evaluate, and resolve quality concerns or production issues. * Communicate quality concerns, nonconforming materials, production delays, and process improvements to the Quality Assurance Supervisor, Quality Assurance Manager, and Production Supervisor. * Maintain compliance with all company policies, quality standards, Fabrication Manual requirements, OSHA regulations, and required personal protective equipment (PPE). * Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment through routine housekeeping and proper handling of tools and materials. * Cross-train in other fabrication and quality assurance functions and perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental operations.   Other Job Functions: * May require cross-training and routine rotation among multiple areas based on operational needs. * Comply with all company policies, safety regulations, quality standards, and operational procedures at all times. * Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with housekeeping standards, performing housekeeping duties as needed. * Report equipment problems and safety hazards promptly to the line supervisor.  * Perform additional duties as assigned by supervision.  * Demonstrate teamwork by getting along with co-workers and maintaining a positive work environment.  * Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Requirements Knowledge * Basic arithmetic skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  * Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively * Understanding of standard workplace safety procedures and plant operations.  * Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions accurately. MENTAL REQUIREMENTS * Ability to maintain focus and attention during routine and high-concentration tasks.  * Able to follow detailed written and verbal instructions accurately.  * Ability to make quick decisions in response to equipment alerts or safety concerns. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Ability to stand or walk for approximately 95% of the shift and sitting 5% of the shift.  * Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. safely.  * Must have the strength, stamina, and mobility to perform repetitive tasks and handle materials throughout the shift.  * Ability to bend/stoop, reach, and move safely while performing job duties. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS * Ability to perform essential job functions in a warehouse and/or manufacturing/production environment.  * Exposure to dust, fumes, high noise levels, and varying temperatures due to lack of climate control.  * Must be able to work safely around machinery, moving equipment, and other typical warehouse or plant hazards.  * Ability to adapt to the physical and sensory demands of the work environment while maintaining safety and productivity. * This position operates in a warehouse and/or manufacturing environment where noise levels may exceed OSHA action levels; hearing protection is required in designated high-noise areas. MANUAL DEXTERITY * Ability to use hands, arms, and feet to lift, move, and handle materials such as finished products, boxes, etc. * Ability to operate machinery and equipment safely and effectively. * Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm motions safely and accurately while maintaining productivity.  * Capable of performing tasks that require coordination, precision, and safe handling of tools and equipment.   SENSORY REQUIREMENTS * Auditory: Ability to hear and respond to workplace sounds necessary for safe job performance, including but not limited to forklifts, alarms, telephones, intercom systems, and verbal communication.  * Visual: Ability to accurately inspect finished products, read and follow written instructions, and distinguish color variations to identify contamination, defects, or inconsistencies.  * Color Perception: Ability to perceive color differences in finished products to detect contamination or inconsistencies. Equipment/Work Requirements * Ability to operate production-related equipment such as electronic scales, computers, label printers, I.D. gauges, measuring tape, electronic calipers, and other related equipment as assigned. * Ability to safely use hand tools, including utility knives or safety cutters, as needed in accordance with the company safety procedures. Attendance * Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.  * Must be able to maintain consistent work hours and reliably report for scheduled shifts.  * Ability to adapt to schedule changes and meet the operational needs of the facility.
