POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Fabricator/Welder builds, fits, and installs structural fabrications, equipment frames, guards, platforms, and process piping that support magnet manufacturing operations. This role partners closely with Engineering to interpret drawings, prototype new designs, and deliver high‑quality, reliable fabrications on schedule. Success in this role requires expert layout and fit‑up, proficiency in multiple welding processes (GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, SMAW; FCAW a plus), strong pipefitting skills, and a relentless commitment to safety and craftsmanship.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent, 4+ years of industrial fabrication/welding experience in a manufacturing, maintenance, or shop environment.
- Proficiency in GTAW/TIG (stainless and carbon) and GMAW/MIG; SMAW required; FCAW experience is a plus.
- Strong blueprint reading skills including weld symbols; ability to work from isometric drawings and basic P&IDs.
- Demonstrated pipefitting ability (takeoffs from isos, offsets, fit‑up, and support installation) to meet quality/tolerance requirements.
- Competent with layout math and precision measurement tools (tape, calipers, squares, angle finders, levels, lasers).
- Safe operation of forklifts, overhead cranes, and common fabrication tools; ability to obtain/maintain certifications.
- AWS D1.1 (structural steel) and/or AWS D1.6 (stainless) certifications; ASME Section IX qualifications for pipe a plus.
- Experience with sanitary tubing/orbital TIG, vacuum or high‑purity gas systems, or cryogenic piping components.
- Experience building jigs and fixtures; basic machining (sawing, light mill/lathe ops) for fit‑up.
- Familiarity with GD&T; ability to interpret tolerance stacks in drawings.
- Experience collaborating directly with engineers/designers; comfortable giving manufacturability feedback and executing redlines.
- Prior use of CMMS (SAP preferred) for work orders, time, and parts tracking; ability to read bills of material (BOMs).
