Facilities Assistant/Maintenance Worker Job DescriptionSummary of Position
Support the Facilities Manager in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-functioning environment across all Richmond Christian School campuses. Perform routine maintenance tasks, assist with repairs, provide light custodial, and help ensure facilities are properly maintained for the educational needs of students and staff. Work under the direction of the Facilities Manager in an educational setting with understanding of school operations and safety requirements.
Reporting Relationship
The Facilities Assistant/Maintenance Worker will report to the Facilities Manager
Duties and Responsibilities General Maintenance Support
· Assist with routine maintenance tasks including basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work under supervision
· Perform regular inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance needs
· Complete work orders as assigned through the maintenance request system
· Maintain routine maintenance logs and equipment records
· Assist in preparation of facilities for special events, including moving furniture, setting up equipment, and arranging spaces
· Support maintenance of playground equipment and outdoor facilities
· Perform minor repairs such as changing light bulbs, fixing door handles, touch-up painting, and unclogging drains
· Assist skilled tradespeople with larger maintenance and repair projects
Custodial and Cleaning Support
· Provide light janitorial services when needed, including sweeping, mopping, and cleaning
· Empty waste containers and manage recycling pickup
· Clean and organize maintenance storage areas and workshops
· Assist with deep cleaning projects during school breaks
· Support event setup and breakdown by moving furniture and equipment
· Maintain cleanliness of maintenance areas and tools
Grounds and Exterior Maintenance
· Assist with landscaping tasks including weeding, planting, and basic yard maintenance
· Support snow removal and ice management during winter months
· Maintain parking lots, walkways, and exterior building areas
· Assist with field maintenance and outdoor sports facilities
· Perform basic maintenance on outdoor equipment and structures
Equipment and Inventory Management
· Maintain and clean maintenance tools and equipment
· Assist with inventory management of supplies and materials
· Help with receiving and organizing maintenance supplies
· Perform routine maintenance on maintenance equipment
· Ensure proper storage and security of tools and materials
Safety and Security Support
· Assist with building security procedures and key management
· Support emergency response procedures as directed
· Follow all health and safety protocols and use personal protective equipment
· Report safety hazards or concerns to the Facilities Manager immediately
· Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures and building systems
Bus and Vehicle Support
· Assist with basic maintenance and cleaning of school buses and vehicles
· Support pre-trip inspections and routine maintenance schedules
· Help maintain vehicle maintenance records and documentation
Working Hours and Conditions
This is a part-time position equivalent to 20 hours per week. Work hours will be coordinated with the Facilities Manager with some flexibility based on school needs. The position may require occasional evening or weekend work for events, emergencies, or special projects. Physical demands include:
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
· Comfortable working at heights using ladders and scaffolding up to 25 feet
· Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments
· Capability to stand, walk, knead, and bend for extended periods
· Manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools safely
Qualifications and ExperienceRequired Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent (Grade 12)
· Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with clean driving record
· Basic knowledge of building maintenance practices and procedures
· Familiarity with hand tools and power tools
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Physical ability to perform maintenance tasks and heavy lifting
Preferred Qualifications
· 1-2 years experience in maintenance, custodial, or related field
· Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems
· Experience with groundskeeping and landscaping
