Description Summary: A Data Center Facilities Engineer will support DC BLOX’s mission-critical infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity for mechanically inclined individuals eager to start or grow a career in the rapidly expanding data center industry. Prior data center experience is not required. In this role, you will assist the Data Center Manager in maintaining critical electrical and mechanical systems, performing preventative maintenance, monitoring key metrics (including PUE), and ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards. You’ll also help manage vendors and support operational readiness across all facility systems. Strong customer service skills are essential, as you’ll work directly with clients during installations and infrastructure changes. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and participate in process improvement and documentation efforts. The position requires hands-on work, physical activity, and participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation to support continuous operations. Essential Duties: Operate and maintain critical electrical systems, including utility power, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, PDUs, power distribution equipment, and busways. Operate and maintain critical mechanical systems, such as computer room air conditioners (CRACs), chillers, cooling towers, and fire detection/suppression systems. Provide oversight of third-party vendors to ensure all work aligns with DC BLOX standards and best practices. Support the development and execution of preventative maintenance programs, including MOPs (Methods of Procedure), maintenance schedules, and vendor coordination. Assist the Data Center Site Manager with customer interactions including facility tours, installations, and service activities to ensure a top-tier customer experience. Adhere to all DC BLOX operational policies, including change control and standard operating procedures. Maintain a state of operational readiness for all facility systems, ensuring rapid response and high availability. Follow all safety protocols and promote a safety-first culture in accordance with company and regulatory guidelines. Complete and submit all required operational and compliance reports to the Site Manager in a timely and accurate manner. Education/Training/Experience: Foundational knowledge of critical electrical systems in a data center or similar environment, including: Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems Generator systems Electrical switchgear Power distribution units and infrastructure Basic understanding of mechanical and HVAC systems, including: Direct expansion (DX) units Standard computer room air conditioners (CRACs) Familiarity with fire detection and suppression systems used in mission-critical environments. Experience monitoring electrical and mechanical systems, including: Current transformer (CT) management and replacements Setting thresholds and alarm notifications Working knowledge of infrastructure monitoring technologies, such as: EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring Systems) BMS (Building Management Systems) SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) platforms Basic knowledge of documentation standards, including: MOPs (Methods of Procedure) SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) RCAs (Root Cause Analyses) Familiarity with preventative maintenance practices for electrical and mechanical systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook. Strong written communication skills, capable of producing clear and concise emails and operational documentation. Basic understanding of budget concepts related to facilities or operations. Experience supporting site safety programs and maintaining a safety-first approach. Basic familiarity with structured cabling standards in telecom or data center environments. Preferred Qualifications Certified Electrician or Certified Industrial HVAC technician Chilled Water HVAC experience NFPA 70E trained Accredited operations specialist certification from Uptime Institute or similar data center certification Safety certifications Mechanically inclined (Construction experience (Decks, Flooring, trim, Automotive mechanic, etc.)
