As the Facilities Inspection Engineer you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of facilities inspections program. You will liaise with the Facilities Business Unit to determine requirements of regular inspections of building components. Examples include but are not limited to inspection of exterior façade, roof anchors, ceiling hung equipment such as ducts, pipes, etc. You will manage the engineering inspection program by hiring and managing third party engineering firms and act as a first point of contact to triage the inspection requirements between the City’s various interest holders to determine who would be best to consult and help. You will be expected to create, maintain, and update inspection lists of various buildings components as required to meet best practices in the industry, any relevant building code or standard requirements, as well as to fulfill Facilities operational and preventative maintenance requirements on engineering components. You will also conduct visual assessments on small scale facilities/structures (such as storage sheds and parks washrooms) and prepare lifecycle plan and provide to various internal interest holders as needed. Primary duties include:

  • Create and maintain a list of buildings’ miscellaneous components that would need regular engineering inspections in consultation with various internal interest holders.
  • Create procurement documents such as Requests for Proposal (RFPs), Requests for Standing Offer (RFSOs), etc. for hiring engineering consulting firms.
  • Conduct visual inspections of structural and other building components, applying an engineering skillset and knowledge to assess the condition.
  • Collaborate with internal interest holders to plan, create and implement the inspection program.
  • Manage external professional engineering consultants and contractors to assist with inspections.
  • Conduct in-house condition assessments of small-scale buildings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in Engineering and at least 1 year of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • Experience in structural engineering, building envelope or condition assessment of buildings will be considered an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as an ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences will be considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires skills in collaboration, initiative, and the ability to maintain details for multiple projects and competing priorities.
    Working Conditions: Office environment with occasional field work.
