JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Asst Dir, Housing Facilities, the incumbent performs a wide variety maintenance, alterations, and repairs to buildings, mechanical systems, grounds, and equipment. The incumbent will perform improvements work within Housing and Residential Life areas and receives instructions both verbally and or in writing. The incumbent performs general skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, alteration, and or repair of Housing exterior and interior building facilities and equipment.
Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communications and service efforts.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The ideal candidate will have a solid working knowledge of materials, equipment, and methods, along with the ability to operate, maintain, and inspect a variety of power and hand tools. They will demonstrate the ability to identify issues or signs of damage to both interior and exterior surfaces and will be capable of working independently or leading crews to complete assignments effectively. A strong team player, the candidate will collaborate well with colleagues and respond sensitively to student needs. They will consistently exercise sound judgment, maintain a safe and clean work environment, and follow standard safety practices. The ideal candidate will be punctual, dependable, and prepared to work in challenging conditions such as dirt and noise. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, including the ability to convey clear, grammatically correct information and complete accurate, easy-to-understand forms and reports.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Equivalent to four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or

facilities/building trade including carpentry, electrical, tiling, painting, plumbing or concrete pouring required.

  • Experience working in a university setting, student affairs, or Housing preferred.

PHYSICAL SUMMARY

  • Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent’s time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.
Responsibilities
  • Operations, Maintenance, Repairs - Routine maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment including the interior and exterior of the various HRL buildings and grounds. Duties will be many and varied each day and will involve skills from the various trades of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, locksmith, roofing, tile, masonry, concrete, and equipment repair.
  • General Tasks - Operate and maintain a variety of power and or hand tools and equipment. Assist in gathering materials. Upon completion of work, clean up job sites and return materials, equipment, tools, or radios, to designated storage areas. Clean, maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties; report damaged tools and equipment.
  • Administrative Tasks - Maintain accurate hours worked on each job. Submit completed trouble tickets or FSR to supervisor or designee for closing out project. Complete Material Transfer Forms and submit to supervisor for approval. Request tools and equipment, materials, parts, etc. and submit to supervisor.
