The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for hands-on building and equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance across the facility. This role also provides custodial and janitorial support on an as-needed basis. We are looking for someone mechanically inclined who can “turn a wrench,” enjoys problem-solving, and brings a service-with-a-smile mindset. This position will handle everything from changing light bulbs and basic repairs to supporting HVAC maintenance and coordinating larger repairs with vendors. Essential Job Functions (Primary Focus: Maintenance and Repair) Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain facility equipment and building systems (mechanical focus). Perform routine and preventative maintenance on building systems and equipment, using checklists and documented schedules. Support HVAC upkeep such as filter changes, basic troubleshooting, cleaning, and coordination with HVAC vendors for advanced repairs or licensed work. Preferred working knowledge (or willingness to learn) basic plumbing tasks such as unclogging drains, replacing faucets, addressing minor leaks, and restroom fixture upkeep. Preferred working knowledge (or willingness to learn) basic electrical tasks such as replacing switches, outlets, or fixtures, when permitted by policy and training. Serve as the “helpdesk” for facility issues, respond to requests promptly, communicate status updates, and deliver excellent internal customer service. Notify management concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems, and coordinate service calls as needed. Maintain organized work areas, maintenance logs, inventory of common parts/supplies, and documentation of completed work. Essential Job Functions (Secondary: Custodial and Janitorial, As Needed) Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming. Gather and empty trash and recycling. Service, clean, and supply restrooms. Clean and polish furniture and fixtures. Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaners, sponges, and squeegees. Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment. Mix water and detergents or cleaning solutions according to specifications. Clean laboratory equipment and surfaces using solvents, brushes, rags, and power cleaning equipment as appropriate. Set up, arrange, and remove tables, chairs, ladders, and equipment for meetings or events. Other duties as assigned. Competencies: Mechanical aptitude: Comfortable using hand tools and diagnosing basic mechanical issues. Dependability: Consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, communicates clearly. Problem-solving: Identifies issues quickly, gathers information, proposes solutions, and follows through. Customer service: Service with a smile, professional, helpful, and respectful. Planning and organizing: Prioritizes work orders and preventive maintenance, uses time efficiently. Quality and safety: Works accurately, follows safety procedures, uses PPE, and proper ladder practices. Adaptability: Handles changing priorities, urgent requests, and unexpected facility needs. Requirements Requirements and Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Mechanically inclined, comfortable performing hands-on repairs and routine maintenance. Experience in commercial building repair and maintenance strongly preferred. Experience coordinating with outside vendors and managing maintenance requests. Working knowledge of plumbing and electrical is preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills. Professional decorum at all times. Multi-task oriented with strong attention to detail. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull typical maintenance supplies and equipment, and to work on ladders as needed. Hours: First shift 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with a 30-minute lunch break
