Responsibilities Facilities, Maintenance and Asset Management Selection Criteria


KSC1 Demonstrated experience managing facilities, buildings, grounds, assets and maintenance programs in a complex setting, including the ability to work collaboratively with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) and support large-scale building, restoration, relocation or capital works projects


KSC2 Demonstrated knowledge of relevant OHS, essential services, contractor induction, child safety and compliance requirements, with the ability to identify risks, maintain accurate records and ensure appropriate follow-up actions are completed.


KSC3 Demonstrated project management capability, including the capacity to coordinate staff, contractors and service providers, prepare scopes of work, manage timelines, monitor delivery against agreed standards


KSC4 Demonstrated high level communication, initiative and practical problem‑solving skills, including the ability to provide advice to school leadership, liaise professionally with staff, contractors and external partners, and exercise sound judgement with limited day‑to‑day supervision.


Role


The Facilities Manager is responsible for coordinating the day‑to‑day operation, maintenance, safety and presentation of the School¿s buildings, grounds and physical assets. As an ES 1-4 position, the role operates with a high level of independence within school policies and procedures, providing practical advice to school leadership on maintenance priorities, compliance, contractors and facilities risks.


Melbourne High School is a heritage‑listed campus requiring careful stewardship of significant buildings and grounds. The role also includes facilities‑related oversight and attendance at the School¿s Millgrove campground as required, and liaison with CHES on facilities and project‑related matters. In 2027, the School will undertake a major restoration and relocation project, with the Facilities Manager supporting operational planning, project coordination, contractor access, site readiness, asset protection, timelines, stakeholder communication and continuity of school operations during the transition.

Responsibilities Facilities, Maintenance and Asset Management


- Lead planning and oversight of facilities, buildings, grounds, campgrounds and asset management activities.


- Prioritise maintenance and capital works based on risk, operational needs and budget, in partnership with the Business Manager and Assistant Principal.


- Manage preventative maintenance, inspections, work requests, records and rectification processes in line with Department and school requirements.
