POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of a senior technician or supervisor, the Facilities Mechanical Plumbing Technician ensures the uninterrupted operation of plumbing systems and equipment. This includes inspecting, installing, maintaining, and repairing threaded, flanged, groove-locked, soldered, and pressed systems. The technician will work with a variety of systems such as compressed gas, domestic water, specialty water (e.g., deionized, reverse osmosis), and backflow preventers. The role also involves emergency response, documentation, and collaboration with other trades.

MINIMUM CLASSIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Two years of experience in the plumbing trade or related equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must obtain the following during the probationary period:
  • Valid OSHA 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health card.
  • EPA Section 608 Technician Certification – Universal.
  • Proficiency in using plumbing tools and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of plumbing code compliance.
  • Knowledge of plumbing fixtures (e.g., faucets, toilets, hot water tanks) and piping components (e.g., valves, fittings, piping types).
  • Successful completion of the probationary period.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Brazing, soldering, pipe threading, and use of hand/power tools.
  • Strong problem-solving, time management, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of Ohio Plumbing Code and safety regulations.
  • Basic computer skills (data entry, communication, internet navigation).
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication.
Responsibilities

GENERAL DUTIES (30%)

  • Ensure compliance with plumbing codes and safety standards.
  • Document work performed, materials used, and compliance tests.
  • Assist and mentor lower-level technicians.
  • Update building drawings and utility shut-off maps.
  • Participate in emergency response teams and departmental meetings.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in professional development and certification programs.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  • Serve on emergency response teams and departmental committees.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
    This is a Communications Workers of America position.
    Pay range for this position is $24.95-$31.19/hr. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications
