At Muddy Boots Nursery, we’re proud to be an award-winning nursery, recognised for our commitment to excellence in early years education. We provide children with unique outdoor learning experiences, where they can explore, play, and thrive in nature. Our passionate team makes a real difference in young lives every day, and we’re looking for a Facilities Team Coordinator to join our small Facilities Team to work within our four nursery locations across York.
About the Role

Responsibilities

The Facilities Coordinator will support the Facilities Manager in ensuring that the nursery premises, equipment, and outdoor spaces are safe, well-maintained, and compliant with health, safety, and safeguarding standards. This role combines supervisory responsibilities with hands-on practical tasks, contributing directly to the smooth daily running of the nursery environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Facilities Support & Maintenance

  • Carry out daily checks of the building, play areas, and equipment to ensure they are safe, clean, and fit for purpose.
  • Undertake basic repairs, maintenance, and improvements (e.g., painting, fixing fixtures, minor plumbing, assembling furniture).
  • Assist in overseeing contractors and suppliers when on site, ensuring work is completed to the required standards

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Support the Facilities Manager in ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, including health & safety, fire safety, safeguarding, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular fire alarm tests, emergency lighting checks, and evacuation drills.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of safety checks, servicing, and maintenance schedules.
  • Report hazards, incidents, and maintenance issues promptly and take corrective action where possible.

    Cleaning & Hygiene

  • Work alongside cleaning staff to ensure high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all areas, in line with infection control and nursery policies.

  • Support with waste management, recycling, and ensuring safe storage of cleaning and maintenance supplies.

    Leadership & Deputising

  • Act as deputy to the Facilities Manager, taking responsibility in their absence for coordinating the facilities team and liaising with nursery leadership.

  • Provide support and guidance to facilities staff to ensure tasks are completed effectively and to the required standards.
  • Assist with staff training on health & safety and use of equipment.

    General Duties

  • Contribute to setting up nursery environments (e.g., moving furniture, preparing outdoor play areas).

  • Support in emergencies, such as responding to accidents, spillages, or urgent repairs.
  • Build positive working relationships with staff, children, parents, and external visitors, ensuring the environment reflects the welcoming and safe ethos of the nursery.
