FACILITIES TEAM LEADER – STUDENT ACCOMMODATION

Location: Whitechapel, Central London (covering multiple sites within 2–4 miles)
Salary: £35,472 – £41,202 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend or on-call cover)
Contract: Permanent
We are recruiting for an experienced Facilities Team Leader to join a leading student accommodation provider, overseeing the day-to-day facilities operations across a small cluster of buildings in Whitechapel, London.
You’ll be responsible for coordinating a small maintenance team and ensuring the buildings remain safe, well-maintained, and fully compliant at all times. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, confident managing people and contractors, and experienced in maintaining residential or hospitality environments to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate day-to-day maintenance operations across multiple student accommodation buildings within close proximity
  • Supervise a small team of maintenance operatives, assigning tasks and overseeing performance
  • Ensure all planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, and statutory compliance checks are completed on time and logged correctly
  • Carry out hands-on maintenance tasks (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, joinery, basic decorating) where required
  • Liaise with contractors, managing on-site works and ensuring jobs meet agreed safety and quality standards
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations, risk assessments, and fire safety protocols across all buildings
  • Support summer turnaround activity including room preparation, inspections, and project coordination
  • Maintain clear records using the internal CAFM or maintenance tracking system
  • Work collaboratively with the wider on-site and central operations teams to ensure a consistent service for students

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong background in building maintenance, facilities, or estates management
  • Experience in student accommodation, hospitality, or residential property sectors preferred
  • Ability to lead a small team and hold others accountable to safety and service standards
  • Comfortable working across multiple buildings and managing your time effectively
  • Good working knowledge of health and safety legislation, compliance, and building services
  • Trade background or hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical, or general maintenance work
  • Basic IT skills and familiarity with maintenance management systems
  • Flexible approach to working hours, with occasional requirement for weekend or on-call cover
