Description

Reporting to the General Manager, The Melbourne Hotel is seeking a professional and motivated Facility & Maintenance Engineer to oversee the Maintenance and Engineering Department. This position is a hands on role which will see you engaged in all maintenance and engineering related activities within the hotel.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, HVAC, elevators, fire safety equipment, and other hotel infrastructure.
  • Ensure uninterrupted operation of power, water supply, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and waste disposal systems.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules for all hotel facilities and plant equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Coordinate with maintenance staff and external contractors to conduct regular inspections and repairs as needed.
  • Organize and manage renovation or refurbishment projects including budgeting, timelines, labour, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor building systems, energy usage, and environmental control systems to ensure cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Establish and enforce safety and quality control standards in accordance with engineering principles and local regulations.
  • Ensure hotel compliance with health and safety regulations, fire safety codes, and building standards.
  • Analyze maintenance data, facility layouts, and operational costs to improve energy efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Identify areas of duplication or inefficiency and implement systems for optimal workforce and equipment utilisation.
  • Liaise with suppliers and contractors to procure materials, equipment, and specialised services and ensure timely delivery of goods and services while maintaining quality and budgetary requirements.
  • Lead and monitor the facilities and maintenance team performance, assign responsibilities, and provide technical guidance and training and ensure work standards are met across all shifts.
  • Develop emergency procedures and maintenance contingency plans. Coordinate emergency response for breakdowns, accidents, or system failures affecting guest experience or safety.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for upgrading or replacing aging infrastructure.
  • Recommend and plan for long-term improvements aligned with the hotel’s growth and sustainability goals.
