Description

Sunup Farm at Spring Creek, Queensland, is a certified organic grower producing fresh vegetables and fruit for markets across the region. Everything happens on site, from crop production and irrigation through to harvesting, washing, grading, packing and dispatch, backed by modern facilities and a firm commitment to quality, food safety, workplace safety, sustainable practice and local employment. To keep produce moving smoothly from harvest to customer, Sunup Farm is seeking a Facility Supervisor to run the day-to-day operation of the production shed. Reporting to management, you will oversee how every line of produce is received, graded, packed, stored and dispatched, so that what leaves the farm consistently meets customer specifications and the standards behind our organic certification.

In this role you will:

  • Assess each incoming load of freshly harvested produce for quality and condition, and allocate grading staff and equipment to match the day’s intake.
  • Monitor produce quality at every stage of the shed, through washing, first and second grading and final grading, so only product that meets specification moves forward.
  • Ensure all product is handled correctly to meet customers’ requirements, across grading, packing, hygiene, cool chain management and dispatch.
  • Act quickly to rectify grading-quality problems or mechanical damage, adjusting equipment, processes or staffing to protect both the produce and the packing schedule.
  • Manage the cool chain from the moment produce enters the shed until it leaves the farm, keeping temperatures right through storage, handling and dispatch.
  • Liaise closely with the Harvest Supervisor, Maintenance Manager and Dispatch Manager to keep harvest flows, equipment availability and outgoing orders aligned.
  • Train shed personnel in standard procedures and supervise day-to-day work so every task is carried out consistently, safely and to standard.
  • Keep all Quality Assurance records complete and accurate, maintaining full traceability of produce from paddock to customer.
  • Check that every dispatch leaves in line with standard procedures, correctly graded, packed, labelled and documented.
  • Make sure waste and reject product is handled and disposed of according to standard procedures, supporting the farm’s hygiene and sustainability goals.
  • Uphold hygiene, sanitation and food-safety practices throughout the shed and cool rooms, in line with our organic certification and customer requirements.
  • Monitor shed performance and put forward practical improvements to workflow, layout and rostering that lift efficiency without compromising quality.

About you:

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in a packing shed, produce handling or horticultural production environment.
  • A relevant AQF Certificate III or Certificate IV qualification, or equivalent, in a related field.

Personal attributes:

  • A sharp eye for produce quality and the confidence to make grading calls quickly.
  • An organised, methodical approach to procedures, records and traceability.
  • A steady head during peak harvest, when volumes are high and timeframes are tight.
  • A clear communicator and capable supervisor who trains, motivates and supports a diverse team.
  • Reliable and hands-on, happy to work alongside the crew on the floor when needed.
  • A strong commitment to food safety, workplace safety and doing things by the book.

Salary and employment conditions:

  • Permanent, full-time position of 38 hours per week.
  • $75,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation per annum.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you! Please be sure to combine a covering letter addressing the key criteria set out above as the first page of your resume.

  • Pay: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
