Description Coastal Alaska Premier Seafoods, a subsidiary of Coastal Villages Region Fund, is currently seeking applications for a Factory Technician to work aboard the F/T Northern Hawk. The primary job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, installing, maintaining and repairing equipment onboard the vessel. Specific Duties Include: Installation, maintenance, and repair of vessel and factory equipment to include pumps, motors, belts, and conveyors. Modifies, fabricates and repairs factory equipment, as requested by factory manager. Maintains adequate and accurate inventory of necessary parts and supplies. Troubleshoots problems with equipment onboard the vessel and assesses to determine most effective means of repair. Utilizes tig and arc welding skills to modify, fabricate, and repair equipment as directed. Provide recommendations to Factory Manager or Chief Engineer for design improvements. Tracking inventory and ordering part for the department. Attend company sponsored training and meetings as directed. Uphold all company policies and support company philosophy. Other duties as assigned This position reports directly to the Factory Manager & Chief Engineer - Seasonal Crew Contract Status: Non Exempt – Seasonal - Coastal Villages Region Fund has a zero tolerance Drug and Alcohol Policy. Selected applicants will be required to successfully pass a post-offer background, drug test and reference check. Applicants must be willing and able to be away from home for extended periods of time, and must be willing to live and work in a cramped environment, and work as a team member at all times. In addition, good communication skills, self motivation, and a positive attitude are important to ensure a high quality product and the safety of all crew members. Note: This is a safety sensitive position, and impairment by any amount of drugs or alcohol may result in undue harm to self or others. Requirements KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Welding skills to include competence with tig and arc welding equipment. Strong troubleshooting and assessment skills, with proven ability to take initiative and self-motivate. Basic mechanical knowledge. Documented knowledge of factory trawlers machinery and equipment, as well as comprehensive understanding of factory operations. Well organized, punctual, and able to work under stressful conditions. Ability to read mechanical schematics and drawings. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to pass a pre-employment and random drug tests. Must be capable of boarding and exiting a vessel without physical assistance by climbing up and downa gangplank or using a Jacob’s ladder. Must climb or descend one or more set of steep stairs, or vertical ladders inside and outside the vessel in all weather conditions as extreme as 30 degrees below zero. Ability to lift repetitively for long periods of time. BASIC MENTAL FUNCTIONS: Applicants must be able to perform intermediate math; add, subtract, multiply, divide, handle fractions and decimals; all on numbers between 1-100. Applicant must also be able to understand, read, speak and write in English. Applicant must possess the ability to apply these basic functions to American currency, weight, distance and volumes. Applicant needs the ability to perform these basic functions in stressful, noisy environments and in the adverse weather conditions as mentioned above. 12 hours or more per day for the duration of the trip, including loading and unloading. Ability to work at sea for extended periods of time. Upon receiving a conditional offer, selected applicants may be required to have physical examinations. The results of those tests may require a licensed healthcare provider and selected applicant to determine whether reasonable accommodations can be structured to allow for safe performance of the job described above while in a remote and hazardous location.

Responsibilities

The Factory Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment onboard the F/T Northern Hawk. This includes troubleshooting equipment issues and providing recommendations for design improvements.
